Metropole Monte Carlo Review

Reviews

Receive complimentary breakfast at Luxury Hotels

The Metropole Monte Carlo is my favorite hotel in Monte Carlo out of season. It offers an exceptional Leading Hotels of the World boutique experience with excellent staff, exceptional food including breakfast and room service, and is right in the center and above the Metropole shopping center which has great designer stores and a supermarket.

Crucially, if the weather is bad, you have the best bar in Monaco in the foyer, so you dont need to lug coats umbrellas or ruin your suede boots on the way out. Cafe de Paris and Casino are also just across the road.

Eat
Joël Robuchon has a gorgeous and spacious 2 Michelin star restaurant adjacent to the bar with a luxurious west Indian windward feel, and of course fantastic mash!

Sleep
All the rooms are excellent. The base rooms aren’t large, but they are stylish, and the deluxe rooms have particularly snazzy bathrooms, which I prefer. None have large balconies, only Romeo and Juliette, which is a disadvantage in the summer.

Pool
The Karl Lagerfeld pool is a highlight in the winter, warm and stylish, it literally sparkles.

In the summer it is even more stylish, perhaps too stylish and lunch tables are a little too close to the pool. I forgot to bring my “Best” bikini and was instead wearing one that has become attached to my son’s velcro trainers in transit, big mistake, I think I was the only one bathing without a designer number and I felt horribly underdressed!

This is the place for a more serene swim whilst keeping your head out of the water to avoid upsetting your coiffured hair. Certainly, I did not feel comfortable using the pool with my family this summer, but we do spend hours in there in the winter when it is quiet, thankyou Mr. Lagerfeld.

Tips
This is an undoubtedly expensive hotel, but it is absolutely worth the splurge, and I do have a few little tricks for you:

Join Leaders Club from $150 USD. This immediately gives you a one-level room upgrade and a free breakfast. We order ours in the room and have had the choice of the menu at no extra cost (Leaders Club says continental but as of 2014 you can have a full breakfast here). The spread in the restaurant is also excellent.

At this hotel, the Leaders Club free amenity is €85 EUR to spend in the bar/restaurant. 1 per stay. American Express Platinum offers the same €85 EUR gift.
