Grand Hotel Tschuggen is in the Swiss alpine resort of Arosa. Accessible by train in just a few hours from Zurich, Basel, or Geneva, Arosa is a great location for a long weekend or week of winter fun. As a member of Leading Hotels of the World and regularly rated as one of the top three 5 Star mountain resorts in Switzerland, quality is guaranteed and the rates are reasonable for the location and facilities.

What marks the Grand Hotel out from other mountain hotels are the facilities – not only is there a ski shop for buying or hiring equipment, there is the only private luxury mountain railway to sweep you up to the pistes in style. If you are a skier, you’ll be pleased to hear that all the pistes in the Arosa area are now linked by lifts and gondolas providing access to 225km of piste in some very pretty surroundings. 60% of that piste is rated as easy by Swiss standards leaving 90km of intermediate and hard, so there’s enough for everyone. Those who are less keen on winter sports can enjoy horse and carriage rides, husky trips, or fondue in a real igloo!

Tschuggen Bergoase Spa Review
At the end of the day, the saunas and pools of the four-storey Mario Botta designed Bergoase Spa (the only hotel ever to receive a sports architectural award from the International Olympic Committee) will soothe aching muscles. TTschuggen Bergoase spa is considered to be one of the best spas in the Swiss Alps.

The Tschuggen Bergoase Spa is the wonderful spa behind the iconic “sails in the snow”. This space is designed to open a new dimension of spaciousness and comfort, nature and geometry, warmth, rock, light, and water. The Tschuggen Bergoase facility is situated next to the Tschuggen Grand Hotel and is part of the open space at the foot of the mountains. Much of the premises disappears into the mountain.

The space is dotted with leaves, trees bringing the “organic” in. The skylights, with their distinctive geometry, ‘channel’ daylight into the underground premises while by night they shine forth into the village. At 5000 m², star architect Mario Botta has created a spacious paradise for all senses, a place of wellbeing and inner peace. Facilities include a large pool area showcasing stunning underwater light effects, saunas, Jacuzzis, and relaxation areas complete with crackling fires. Swim inside or outside, beside the snow and looking across at the Tschuggen railway (see vista above). This facility is as good as it gets when it comes to spa relaxation.
