Knockinaam Lodge is located in its own secret beach cove with a lawn that stretches from the hotel itself to the seashore. The luxury, small hotel can be discovered at the most Southern point of Scotland, surrounded by farmland and at the bottom of a windy, country road, surrounded by dramatic rock faces that overlook the Irish Sea. Knockinaam Lodge which is Michelin listed and a Member of Connoisseurs Scotland boasts three AA Rosettes for food and 3 AA Red Stars. With a plethora of awards that recognize its quality and commitment to excellent customer service, here you will be treated to a luxury stay in one of Scotland’s finest, independent hotels where friendly staff will cater to your every need and time will simply slip away.
Individually Designed Rooms
All ten bedrooms and suites are individually designed combining modern facilities with the ambiance of a traditional Victorian country house. Most of the rooms have spectacular sea views looking across the Irish Sea to Northern Ireland and the others offer views of our wonderful garden. Luxury home comforts can be enjoyed including Egyptian cotton sheets, deep pile bathrobes, and toweling, complemented by Purdies of Argyle toiletries to help you relax and unwind. The rooms are all named rather than numbered with perhaps the most notable being ‘Churchill’ which overlooks the gardens with a partial sea view. Churchill is one of the largest rooms in the hotel and is where Sir Winston Churchill stayed during a secret meeting with General Eisenhower. It boasts a Super King-Sized Sleigh bed and a seating area with an original fireplace with the bathroom featuring a 100yr old enameled concrete, soaking bath, and a walk-in shower.
Dining in the Restaurant
You need to feel good to enjoy a great meal to the full and this is guaranteed by a small yet spacious, elegant yet very relaxing and romantic, candlelit restaurant which preserves a compelling atmosphere of intimacy and peacefulness. Savor informal dining at its very best. Enjoy a pre-dinner drink in the bar while perusing the delightful seven-course tasting menu which can be complemented by great wines, carefully and expertly chosen to blend with the food. The Scottish country house tradition of fine food and great wine is very much the focus of this lovely informal restaurant and there is a selection of 450 wines available to choose from the hotel’s magnificent wine cellar. Dine in the gentle ambiance of soothing charm and a light, delightfully unstuffy atmosphere – and convivially with that feeling of being amongst friends whilst at the same time being carefully and unobtrusively served by a caring, easy friendly staff team with their interest in your wellbeing being their hallmark. There are around 450 different selections of wine available from the hotel’s magnificent wine cellar, to select from with your evening meal.
The Whisky Bar
A true Scottish experience would not be complete without savoring a whiskey or two in the lovely little wood-paneled Whisky Bar with its light-hearted charm and intimate character. With a quite sensational selection of over 120 single malts, the bar has enough to please even the greatest of connoisseurs.
Local Activities
Dumfries and Galloway has a huge variety of walking routes on offer from hill to coastline with spectacular scenery. The Southern Upland way starts at nearby Portpatrick. The hotel can provide you with several interesting local walks, with some beginning from the hotel. There are a wide variety of attractions to visit to suit everyone, from historical monuments and castles to artisan food shops, art galleries, or activity centers to keep the kids happy. Many country pursuits can be experienced whilst at Knockinaam Lodge. We can arrange shooting, fishing, and golf for during your stay. Dumfries and Galloway and the tranquil South coast of Scotland is a land of peaceful solitude, colorful and breathtaking scenery, and an area of beauty, wilderness, and romance. Its rich and colorful past is never more apparent than in the abundance of towns and villages where each new corner throws open a dramatic sense of history and scenic delight.
One of the most unspoiled parts of Scotland – a hidden gem if ever there was one. In the typical tourist rush to the cities and the highlands, this stunning area is ignored at your peril. The coastlines bristle with delightful towns, villages, beaches, and headlands – and inland the more dramatic mountain scenes of the Galloway Hills dominate a large part of the region. Gardens galore, including some of Scotland’s very best, sensational golf particularly at Stranraer, Portpatrick and the Dumfries courses – the Robert Burns connection, a ferry hop to Ireland – and sensational walking and biking country.
