Review Of The Oakley Court Windsor
Oakley Court is a majestic building topped with pointed arches and decorative turrets. It looks like it was created for a movie set. In fact, these gothic spires and arched doorways have played host to a number of films including Peter Cook and Dudley Moore’s comedy, The Hound of the Baskervilles, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) where the manor was Dr. Frank N Furter’s castle. More recently this impressive building featured in the Oscar and BAFTA-winning Theory of Everything.
You do not need to be a movie star to appreciate the architecture of Oakley Court or to laze in a deckchair on their acres of lawns and enjoy a Pimms by the river. The grounds are a huge highlight of this hotel. Not only are they are a great place to escape the crowds and to wander along the riverside; In the summer all sorts of live events spill out onto the lawns, making them a wonderful place to sit out and enjoy into the night. These special events include the Live & Unwind event which will be held on Saturday & Sunday 13th & 14th August 2016. The weekend kicks off with the riverside open air cinema showing of ‘Grease’. You can enjoy food from the BBQ, try a wood fired pizza, grab a bite from the popcorn and candy cart or get sloshed in either the Pimms Tent, the Champagne Tent or the Windsor & Eton Brewery Tent. On Sunday don’t miss their annual music festival which has become a key part of the summer calender in Berkshire.
Rooms
Bedrooms are spread across the Courtyard, East Wing, West Wing and Mansion House. It is worth trying to reserve a room in the main house for the old world charm. We would also recommend requesting a river view.
Dining
Breakfast here is very good and served in a lovely room that’s like a country pantry. Afternoon tea is a terribly British way to enjoy the hotel and grounds and they have a rather delicious chocolate cake that you really shouldn’t miss. In the evening you can dine in the river-facing Terrace Restaurant during the summer months, but the main culinary delights can be found in the 2 Rosette Dining Room, where Head Chef Damian Broom’s team serves up quality ingredients in unfussy dishes.
Pool Gym & Golf
The Oakley Court offers a fitness centre in an outbuilding complete with gym, pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room. There is also a nine-hole golf course and for kids, there is a golf or tennis camp available during the school holidays.
