North Star Club is really the epitome of glamping. Here the emphasis is definitely on the “glam” rather than the “camping”! The founders of this stunning woodland retreat are multi award-winning designers Christian and Carolyn Van Outersterp (their backgrounds are in landscape architect and fashion), and it really shows in every last mesmerising detail. Less than 3 and a half hours from central London, you can find this gem within 500 acres of beautiful woodland in the Yorkshire Wolds.
Accommodation
Inspired by the legendary American Great Camps, North Star Club blends seamlessly into the native Yorkshire woodland. You cannot fail to appreciate the wildlife with whom you share the woodland and may well be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of peacocks, pheasants, deer and squirrels to name but a few.
Rooms
There are 5 individually designed Woodland Suites, each with their own unique inspiration taken from Yorkshire’s artists and historic figures. Each luxurious Suite features a cosy sitting room, large bedroom with king-sized bed and a second bedroom with bunk beds, plus a spacious spa-style bathroom. The addition of a double sofa bed in the sitting room means the Suites will sleep up to 6 people, plus travel cots can also be provided. The Suites also include a very large covered veranda, cosy wood burner in the bedroom, small fridge and a gas fired BBQ. With acres of gorgeous natural wood, huge faux fur throws, candles and fairy lights topping of the sumptuous décor.
The Suites offer a secluded, private feeling and are at least 25 metres from each other; alternatively, if you wish, there is a communal chill out area: The Woodshed. Here, you can snuggle up by the outdoor fire pit or help yourself to a selection of teas, coffees and homemade cakes at the honesty bar, and of course, toast marshmallows by moonlight!
Food
This is not a self-catering experience, with the range and quality of food on your doorstep there would be little point and it might interfere with your relaxation! The owners can however, arrange for a BBQ pack or food hamper to be delivered to your suite.
The award-winning pub “The Star” can be found at Sancton, only a 20 minute walk or a short drive from the camp. Their food is locally sourced and can also be delivered directly to your Suite if you find it hard to drag yourself away from the magical woodland – particularly tempting for breakfast!
The Michelin-starred “Pipe and Glass Inn” can be found in nearby South Dalton where the emphasis is on high standard English food. As Yorkshire has the largest number of Michelin-starred restaurants in the UK, you will have no problem whatsoever finding somewhere different to eat every night if the mood takes you, the owners recommend the Top 10 in the area to assist you.
Activities
One of the best things about your over-sized bathroom, is that it allows plenty of room to have in-Suite treatments from the camp’s Elemis-trained therapist. With a full range of pampering treatments available, your only problem will be choosing which ones to have!
Yorkshire was recently voted the third best region to visit in the world and you really are spoilt for choice. If you’re feeling active: polo, gliding, golf, watersports and clay pigeon shooting can all be found nearby. There is horse racing on offer at both York and Beverley, as well as 2 stunning country houses locally. For a more outdoorsy experience, Flamborough Head is only a 30 minute drive away and is an excellent example of the wild Yorkshire coastline.
Insider Info
You are only 20 minutes south-east of York and exploring this historic city is a must, just don’t miss the shops!
The honesty bar is well worth sampling and the Moroccan Mint Tea is quite special, particularly when coupled with a sumptuous chocolate brownie!
Don’t miss Drewton’s Farm Shop, just down the road at South Cave, the perfect spot to pick up the finest Yorkshire produce.
For a perfect mix of luxury and the great outdoors, it really has to be the very special, North Star Club. The very indulgent experience is sure to melt away the realities of day-to-day life and take you back to nature in the most comfortable fashion imaginable.
