It is possible to find a luxury escape destination without the long-haul flight and Monaci delle Terre Nere is just the proof we need. This truly stunning boutique hotel is situated halfway between Taormina and Catania on the verdant slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily. It is not just us that love this luxury hotel. The Sunday Times, New York Times, Tatler, Wallpaper, Conde Nast Traveller and many more rave about this boutique gem. They are not wrong and with just a 3 hour flight from London to Sicily, you can be unwinding with a chilled drink while looking out upon the twinkling Ionian sea by lunchtime.
Review Of Monaci delle Terre Nere
Monaci Delle Terre Nere is surrounded by a beautiful estate on the grassy slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily at 500m above sea level with beautiful view of the Mediterranean Sea. The architecture is traditional Sicilian, but the décor and art is contemporary with a rustic feel. A real sense of Italian style and class shines throughout. This really is an escape-from-it-all experience and there are no TV’s or telephones in the rooms to ensure your peace is not disturbed.
Rooms
There are 20 suites, a few of which lie in the main building itself, but many are in the smaller buildings around the estate. The stunning Suites are all very different, both in layout and finish, but the beautiful blend of historic features with contemporary design is common throughout. Many of the rooms include king-sized beds, sitting areas, bathtubs and sea views; some are in very rustic buildings with walls left unfinished to highlight the stone work, whereas some feel much more sleek and modern – this variety is really charming.
Restaurant & Bar
The Nerello restaurant prides itself on traditional cuisine using the freshest ingredients, with many being sourced from the organic gardens in the estate itself. Views from the terrace overlooking the Mediterranean Sea make the perfect accompaniment to the delicious fare. The Lounge bar offers chilled drinks throughout the day, including some delectable Italian wines.
Pool & Activities
The beautiful outdoor pool is totally surrounded by grass and you really feel as though you are swimming in a stunning garden; with vineyards, fruits trees and olive trees all around you. The gardens also offer stunning sea views and there is a poolside bar too. There are various activities you can take advantage of in the grounds of the estate including: yoga and Pilates, cookery classes, wine tasting, a children’s playground, astronomy and even an open air cinema! If you wish to explore the surrounding area, there is much to take in. Mount Edna itself offers beautiful walks and drives, the local vineyards beg to be sampled, and there are pretty Italian villages or beautiful beaches to fill your days.
Insider Info
A room away from the main house works well as you benefit from lovely evening strolls through the beautifully lit gardens on the way to and from dinner.
For a peaceful escape where beauty, tranquillity and intimacy are served with a generous helping of Italian style, it has to be Monaci delle Terre Nere.
