Morocco is one of those places that hits all your senses at once taking you on a kaleidoscope, whirlwind adventure; the sights, sounds and smells are both fabulous and overwhelming all at once. It’s an adventure for the soul that ensures your real life with its day to day stresses and dramas becomes a distant memory. Karawan Riad in Fes is one of the best luxury hotels in Morocco, beautifully designed to highlight its heritage. Fes can be reached in just under 3 and a half hours from London and is even in the same time zone – it feels quite incredible that you can reach this other-worldly place when you feel you’ve barely left your front door!
Karawan Riad Review
Karawan Riad is tucked away in a quiet alley in the Medina of Fes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hotel is a 17th century riad that has been lovingly restored. The renovation work is simply incredible; both respect for local craftsmanship and attention to detail are evident on this decade long painstaking project. This is luxury certainly, but beautiful Moroccan style luxury – think mosaic tiles, delicate wrought iron-work, stunning lanterns, silk embroidery and richly painted wood. The communal areas are enchanting; a comfortable library with Moroccan carpets and chandeliers, a rooftop garden with a chilled vibe and stunning view of the Medina below, a central courtyard open to the stars above and lovingly restored with its original columns, wood carvings and painting intact, even the spa and restaurant are authentically Moroccan. The service is fantastic, they are professional, very welcoming and extremely knowledgeable about the local area. They are happy to arrange chauffeur-driven excursions and airport transfers as required.
Karawan Riad is one of a fantastic selection of boutique hotels all available through TemptingPlaces. They offer 140 hotels in 34 countries; all authentic, unique and with excellent service. With excellent service themselves, TemptingPlaces are well worth relying on to ensure your high standards are consistently exceeded.
Rooms
There are 7 unique luxury suites which all feature the exquisite Moroccan décor. Some are more contemporary, while others feel extra romantic for travelling couples. All suites include balconies or private terraces, ensuite bathrooms, air-conditioning, luxury organic toiletries and complementary Wi-Fi. My personal favourite would probably be Chergui, the most exotic of the rooms, with its large rugs and gorgeous balcony overlooking the courtyard. It also has a secret mezzanine lounge is accessed by a hanging staircase!
Restaurants & Bars
Fine dining is available at Karawan Restaurant. Inspired by the freshest local produce and using herbs and spices from local markets, the menu offers a delicious selection of both Mediterranean and Moroccan dishes. Breakfast is included and again offers a delectable mix of both the classic continental breakfast plus local flavours.
Spa & Activities
To ease those aching bones after a busy day exploring Fes, the Leelah Hammam & Spa has the perfect solution. Traditional re-energising rituals are used to leave you feeling invigorated.
The main draw of Fes has to be the Medina; a maze of narrow lanes, bewitching markets, mosques and a wonderful bustle of people. Meander in the city historic gardens, explore stunning palaces, barter in the souks and bathe in thermal baths. A cultural overload is really the only way to appreciate this magnificent city.
For a real sanctuary in this fabulous, crazy world, the Karawan Riad offers you a peaceful and beautiful place to get away from it all. See more top luxury hotels in Fez.
