Receive complimentary breakfast at Luxury Hotels
Hyatt Hotels is revamping its Gold Passport loyalty program, replacing the program with World of Hyatt, adding a membership tier, and making other changes to “engage with high-end travelers.”
When is the new World of Hyatt Launching?
World of Hyatt will be launched on March 1, 2017. Members will advance through three tiers – Discoverist, Explorist and Globalist – based on qualifying nights or base points.
Differences between Gold Passport & World Of Hyatt
The program accrues base points and qualifying nights toward status, versus stays in the previous program; bonus points can be earned for promotions, qualifying meetings and events, through Hyatt’s credit card and as an elite tier member, but they won’t count toward status.
When World of Hyatt launches on March 1, members will continue to earn five Base Points for every eligible U.S. dollar spent. In addition, the hotels in each redemption category and the number of points required to redeem free night awards will remain unchanged.
For those who earn the top-tier status of Diamond in the current Gold Passport program by logging the requisite 25 stays, the switch to a points – or nights-based qualification system is a disadvantage. But for those who spend a significant amount with Hyatt, the new program will be more rewarding.
How Do I Achieve Globalist In World Of Hyatt?
You need to build up 100,000 points (equal to $20,000 USD in spending, based on the 5x earning rate) in a calendar year or you need to complete 60 eligible nights).
Perks Of Being A Hyatt Globalist
A huge advantage of Hyatt Globalist over Hyatt Diamond is that Globalist members get unlimited suite upgrades based on availability (instead of the 4 suite upgrades with Diamond status). This includes award stays. Under the existing program, Diamond members only get complimentary upgrades to the best room available, excluding suites. Now top tier members get suites rather than rooms on all their stays where available.
Globalists will also get four upgrade awards for confirming a suite ahead of time usable on both paid and award stays. Plus, you can earn up to four additional suite upgrade awards per year — one each for hitting 70, 80, 90 and 100 eligible nights in a calendar year.
Hyatt will award all members with a free night at a Category 1-4 property after they try out five different brands — and it will also give Explorist members a free night at Category 1-4 hotels after qualifying.
When you qualifying for Globalist status you will also get a free night at a Category 1-7 hotel.
When you qualify for Globalist with 60 nights/100,000 points, you’ll get access to a dedicated agent who can assist with booking stays as well as scheduling spa treatments and dining reservations. The concierge will also apparently provide Globalist members with first-hand info about promotions and hotel openings.
No resort fees — Globalist members won’t have to pay daily resort fees for both award stays and on eligible paid stays. For example, the Hyatt Regency Maui charges $32 USD per day, but Globalists wont pay this.
If qualify for Globalist status in 2017 you can requalify in 2018 with a slightly lower threshold of 55 nights.
Hyatt Diamond Vs. Hyatt Globalist
To qualify for Diamond you need to meet a 25-stay/50-night minimum to qualify for Diamond. Globalist requires staying 60 nights or accumulating 100,000 points ($20,000 USD in spending, based on the 5x earning rate). However, the perks are better than the current Diamond offering.
Will I Keep My Hyatt Diamond Status?
If you requalify for Diamond status for 2017 you will become a Globalist
If you are Diamond but didn’t requalify for 2017 you will be an Explorist
If you requalify for Platinum status for 2017 you will become a Discoverist
The new program will reward top-tier members with even more benefits. If you only just qualified for Diamond on Gold Passport, Globalist will be difficult to achieve on the new program.
