China Airlines will launch its A350-900 in early 2017. I review their new premium economy having already showcased their Premium Business Class service.
China Airlines Premium Economy
The A350-900 is configured with 306 seats, 32 in business class, 31 in premium economy, and 243 in economy. Premium economy on the A350 (pictured below) offers the biggest leap forward, compared both with China Airlines’ 777-300ER and with other carriers’ premium economy offerings.
Premium Economy is arranged in a very spacious 2-3-2 configuration, compared with 2-4-2 layouts on A350-operating competitors like Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific. The China Airlines offering in the premium economy market is significantly better, and allows the airline to position this as a real business-minus product rather than economy-plus.
China Airlines Economy
Even economy on the A350 looks good, with the wide seats in a comfortable 3-3-3 configuration, plus the Skycouch that China Airlines licenses from Air New Zealand to provide an extra offering focussed on families.
China Airlines has a total of 14 a350-900s on order, and will initially operate them on its regional flights between Taipei and Hong Kong before moving them to long-haul routes to Amsterdam in early 2017. Taipei-Vienna will also see the A350 from January 9, followed by Taipei-Delhi-Rome from February.
