Book A Hotel

My list of the top 5 best and most amazing hotel and resort swimming pools in Europe has to start with the glorious and family-friendly Monte Carlo Bay & Resort in Monaco (pictured above) and also includes the ultra up-market Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat a Four Seasons hotel which has a saltwater pool overlooking the Mediterranean. If you are looking for the very best swimming pools Europe has to offer… read on!

1. Monte Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort in Monaco
The outdoor lagoon pool at the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort in Monaco (pictured above & a member of Preferred Hotels) is simply the best hotel pool I have ever experienced. The bottom is sandy, and the pool itself meanders under bridges, past waterfalls, and around islands encrusted with tropical plants. It is all one depth which means you can stand without a problem, wherever you are and wiggle your toes in the sand! The lagoon pool is open from May to September, and the Monte Carlo Bay offers double and family rooms (sleeping four in 2 doubles) with fabulous balconies with views across Monaco.

2. Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat a Four Seasons hotel
This pool has the best view on the Cote D’Azur. Sat on the very tip of the Cap Ferrat peninsula, this infinity pool and surrounding loungers look out over the Mediterranean on this busy sector of the coastline. Over a few hours you will see hundreds of boats bob past. Around the pool, staff supply you with ice-cold lemon and lime water, and to get down to the pool you get to take an air-conditioned cable car down the side of the cliff. No effort needs to be made to get to this little slice of paradise.

3. Belmond Cipriani in Venice
For me life doesn’t get better than the Cipriani in Venice. I will never get over the novelty of swimming outdoors as a boat floats past. The saltwater pool here is huge and right next to a busy canal, so as you power up and down, masts and the tops of boats motor by. Poolside staff will set you up loungers at the Cipriani in seconds and spritz you with Evian, and you can rinse after your swim in an outdoor shower encrusted with flowers. Choose a poolside Junior suite that will give you direct access and loungers just outside your room.

4. Hôtel Metropole Monte Carlo
This hotel pool is the most stylish pool in Europe. Designed by Karl Lagerfeld, it comes with murals on the walls and sparkling stars in the tiling. This is the place to be seen in the summer. Grab a bite in the lush ODYSSEY poolside garden or “beach area” before taking a dip in your finest designer swimwear. In the winter, Karl has designed a marquee-style tented construction that covers the pool area and makes this the warmest pool and poolside in Monaco. With deliciously warm air and water temperature, you go for a swim or laze around the pool on the super-sized loungers even when it is cold outside.

5. Marbella Club, Spain
My favorite hotel in Spain, The Marbella Club, has two gorgeous pools. One in the gardens up by the rooms and a Hawaiian style pool down by the beach. This saltwater pool comes complete with a bridge, waterfalls and a poolside bar and restaurant, as well as a large number of loungers to choose from, shaded by palms. The pool is great and beautiful, and if you get bored, step across the footpath to the beach and have a swim in the warm sea.
