Book A Hotel

Sicily has a huge 1,000kms of coastline, and the best beaches on the island range from golden sand to pebbly coves, some hidden away from the crowds and others sat at the front of seaside resorts. From the Tyrrhenian coast in the north to the Mediterranean coast in the south and the Ionian coast in the east, Sicily offers some amazing beaches.

The sandy beaches can be found in the busier north of the island. If it’s seclusion and untamed beachside fun you are looking for, the south is where you should head.

Here is my pick of the top 5 beaches in Sicily:

Cala Mosche Beach, Sicily

Cala Mosche, pictured above, is a hidden gem. This peaceful beach is located within the Vendicari Nature Reserve on Sicily’s southeast coast and next to the archaeological site of Eloro. This relatively unknown beach which has limited access, requiring a 15-minute walk through the Reserve, has been voted one of the most beautiful in Italy. The beach benefits from being set between two rocky ridges, so it is protected from the wind making the crystal-clear water calm and ideal for snorkeling.

San Vito Lo Capo, Sicily

San Vito Lo Capo is a town and comune in North-Western Sicily. The crescent-shaped white sand beach that borders this relatively undiscovered town offers turquoise waters and is set to the backdrop of a charming coastal town.

Cefalu Beaches, Sicily

Cefalu is one of Sicily’s prettiest towns and also one of Sicily’s busiest international beach resorts. Set on the Tyrrhenian Coast, its long sandy beach is one of the island’s finest. The facilities here are excellent, too, making it a good choice for families.

Mondello Beaches, Sicily

Mondello is a small borough of the city of Palermo in the autonomous region of Sicily in Southern Italy. Its beach lies between two cliffs called Mount Gallo and Mount Pellegrino. Mondello is a popular spot in the summer months for both tourists and locals. Much of the beach is privately owned (expect to pay around €10 EUR per day for a lounger and umbrella), though there is also a public beach. It is a beautiful spot that boasts a mile and a half of white sands backed by lush green vegetation.

Lido Fiori Beaches, Sicily

Lido Fiori is an energetic beach resort on the southwest coast of Sicily. It offers a child-friendly Blue Flag sandy beach. This beautiful sweeping arc of a beach has a backdrop of hills and shady seafront pine woods.

Villas To Rent In Sicily

Villas are the ideal option for a family stay in Sicily. There are plenty of holiday rentals in Sicily, and Scent of Sicily is a great place to start when looking for a villa to rent. You can specifically select villas in Sicily with a pool to ensure your family has the best time. One of our favorites includes Villa Kalon, with a panoramic view of islands, infinity pool, and modern design, in Marsala, and Villa Oasis, which is an Oasis in the vibrant town of Palermo, with all the advantages of groceries, street food, urban life, but the silence of a park in a town. Enjoy the rural delights of donkeys, swans, ducks, and citrus groves less than 1 km from the beach.
