The Maldives is a once-in-a-lifetime paradise destination with stunning powdery white sandy beaches, blue lagoons, and extensive reefs.
Budget accommodation is now available in the Maldives and while you might have to slightly reduce your luxury criteria, I would say it’s well worth the trip, to experience the beauty of the Maldives. Read on for my Top 3 Best Budget Hotels in The Maldives…
1. Olhumathi View Inn
So many things are fabulous about this place: it’s near one of the finest beaches on the islands, it’s easy to reach from the main airport, and you can walk right out of your room and straight onto the soft, white sand. The Inn is on the beautiful small island of Ukulhas, home of Ari Atoll beach and a 60-minute speedboat ride or 20-minute seaplane air taxi flight from Male. The rooms are spacious with more than adequate facilities – air-con, flatscreen LCD TV, ensuite, among others; plus, there’s a restaurant serving seafood dishes, an amazing choice of breakfasts and legendary BBQ nights, beautiful gardens, complimentary parking on-site, and free Wi-Fi. Most importantly there’s that beach and you have a private beach area to really make the most of it; water sports facilities, including diving, are available, too.
2. Hotel Octave
A very different offering, this hotel is situated in the center of Male. So, your transfer time from the airport couldn’t get much quicker but the beach isn’t quite so close. The rooms are fairly basic but well-equipped, and there are even mini-suites with kitchenettes, which are ideal for longer stays or business trips. The Olive restaurant and café serves all-day dining. There’s a 24-hour reception, room service, complimentary Wi-Fi, and complimentary airport transfers. This hotel would be perfect for an overnight stay before you move to an island location and the owners are also dive enthusiasts, so if your accommodation isn’t the priority but you’d love to have a holiday centered around diving, this hotel would work very well for you too.
3. Hotel Medhufushi
The Medhufushi is at the very upper end of the budget but still wouldn’t quite be classed as luxury. Set on the island of Medhufushi, a 45-minute seaplane transfer from the airport. Accommodation is made up of a choice of villas and suites scattered across the island, at the top end (with the Lagoon Suites), you’re starting to pay luxury prices but not quite in a luxury resort, so I’d suggest the beach villas – there are detached and semi-detached options. All villas include a four-poster king-size bed or twin bed, outdoor rain shower, private outdoor veranda, sun loungers, and Maldivian-style swing. There are two restaurants and a bar, a pool, room service, meeting facilities and a range of water sports are available.
