A break in a traditional Cornish fishing village is top of my staycation list. Although I admit that my love of Cornwall is possibly influenced by watching one too many episodes of the TV series Poldark, there is something unbelievably romantic about striding across stunning Cornish clifftops and strolling, barefoot ,over white sand beaches with waves crashing on the shore.
Cornwall has so many attractions to visit that it’s great for families too; stunning rocky coves with those oh-so-magical rock pools for catching crabs and other sea life, and of course the miles and miles of white sandy beaches that I truly believe, are some of the best in the world.
Location
For a setting slightly more Doc Martin than Poldark, the Fallen Angel in Mousehole is a private oasis for two, in the very heart of this perfect village, over-looking the sea. Accessible only by foot, this romantic retreat is in stumbling distance of exceptionally good eating and drinking experiences, including The Old Coastguard, a lovely seaside hotel with a great bar and restaurant.
Style & Character
Fallen Angel is a modern bolthole for two, overlooking to rooftops of Mousehole. The interior is superb and modern, decorated in creams with some amazing features such as a romanic fireplace and deep suck-you-in sofas. There is a great kitchen in the open plan living area, and the entire living area offers floor to ceiling windows looking out to a cute patio area and then down over the Mousehole rooftops and to the sea and rocks beyond. At sunrise and sunset the views are particularly beautiful- they are worth getting up early for.
Other uplifting features include an enormous skylight which gives the house a light airy feel, and our favourite, the roll-top bath in front of the window, where you can enjoy bubbles to a view!
Fallen angel brings the outside in. It is the kind of cottage that encourages you to sit outside in the sheltered sub-tropical garden, to look up at the stars, or to cuddle up by a roaring fire, enjoying the amazing views across the prettiest fishing village in Cornwall.
