When I fancy a break which offers peace and quiet and the feeling of calm that returning to nature brings, glamping is my new go-to holiday; all the benefits of camping without giving up any of life’s little luxuries. I do rather like glamping somewhere special and the amazing Luxury Safari Tents at Carr’s Hill Glamping in Central Scotland ticks all my boxes very nicely.
Location
Carr’s Hill is situated in a peaceful, beautiful, rural area in the heart of Scotland, next to an ancient Roman fort and is less than 6 miles from Stirling and Falkirk. Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth are all within easy driving distance. It is very easily accessible from the M9/M80/M876 motorway network and Loch Lomond and The Trossachs are less than an hour’s drive away. The world famous Falkirk Wheel and ‘The Kelpies’ are less than 10 minutes drive away. There’s lots to do in the local area; as well as shopping and plenty of sights to see nearby, you can also enjoy playing golf (with a course just 3 miles away); going coarse fishing (2 miles away); a spot of clay pigeon shooting (2 miles away); and horse riding (2 miles away).
Style & Character
Carr’s Hill offers a unique ‘glamping’ retreat in the stunning Stirlingshire countryside. If you’re rather partial to the ‘glam’ in glamping, as I am, then it’s the two Luxury Safari Tents which will appeal. The tents are situated in alarge field with plenty of space for children to play safely, the field overlooks the surrounding farmland where horses, sheep and cattle roam freely (so please keep dogs on leads!). The tents themselves, affectionately known as Hazel and Jennifer, are beautiful and give the feeling that you might be camping out on safari, just surrounded by the stunning Scottish countryside instead!
Service & Facilities
The Safari Tents offer real home from home luxury facilities; including 2 bedrooms, a private shower room, log burning stove and indoor kitchen area with a dining table and chairs. Outside you’ll find your own BBQ and a private decked veranda from which you can enjoy the magnificent sunsets towards Ben Lomond and Ben Ledi, there’s even a chimenea; perfect for snugging around if the nights get chilly. There are two dedicated car parking spaces for each tent. Part of the beauty about staying here is that the tents are ‘off grid’. This means that they have no mains power supply; your lighting is a wonderfully magical combination of storm lanterns, solar lights, candles and torches. Although romantic, if you crave a little electricity then there are mains sockets within the Reception area, so you can charge your phone and plug in your hair dryers and straighteners! There’s also a free Wi-Fi hotspot at Reception too so if you really need to, you can stay connected though there’s something very beneficial for the soul about taking some time away from technology. There’s also a therapy room for sports, relaxation and aromatherapy massages to further aid your relaxation. An American fridge/freezer is also provided within Reception to allow 24hr access to your food, cold beer and wine!
Rooms
The tents include a king size bedroom, a triple bunk bedroom and a single sofa bed, ideal for an additional guest. Each tent has its own private shower room with a large shower, WC and wash basin.
Food & Drink
The indoor cooking area includes a 4-burner gas hob, sink with hot and cold water, cupboards and storage space with all the crockery, cutlery, glasses, pots/pans and utensils that you are likely to need during your stay; there’s even a cute range of plastic plates and cutlery for the children. For supplies, the local village of Plean is just 1.5 miles away and has three convenience stores, a bakery, pharmacy and two takeaway food shops. For a greater selection of groceries, there is a Co-op and Sainsbury’s store in Denny, around 2 miles from Carr’s Hill. And, of course, you’re in Scotland, so there’s many lovely pubs locally to sample; ask your hosts for recommendations.
