There is nothing better than swimming in your own private space. Here is my pick of the best hotels in Phuket where you can enjoy your own private pool.
1. Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay, 50 minutes from Phuket Airport
Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay (pictured above) is perched high on a cliff with epic views across Kalim Bay and out to the Andaman Sea beyond, the rooms are gorgeous, especially those with a private pool, and the food is divine.
Located in Kathu in Phuket and just 31km from Phuket International Airport, it’s the perfect place to stay to get away from the hustle and bustle of Patong Beach but yet be near enough that you can take advantage of everything on offer there. Catch up on some overdue relaxation time on the beach or get adventurous; ride the elephants at the Siam Safari or see the big cats at Tiger Kingdom. Old Phuket Town or Jungceylon is great for shopping or for a cultural hit. Marvel the golden Buddha at Wat Khao Rang; the hotel runs local excursions to these and several other destinations.
The rooftop pool is positioned high up so that the views are fantastic; have a swim, lay in the sun, and sip on a cocktail from the swim-up Deck Bar. The rooms offer floor-to-ceiling windows and Suites and Villas all have private pools, There are few more romantic and relaxing places to be than lazing on your own private terrace, taking an occasional dip, and drinking in the panoramic ocean views.
2. Amanpuri, 30 minutes from Phuket Airport
It is no secret that I love Aman Hotels. You can read about a recent trip to Aman Grand Canale Venice, which was also utterly romantic.
Amanpuri is tucked away in Surin beach alongside a beach that can only be reached via the hotel or by boat, keeping it almost completely private. This hotel is beachside rather than cliffside, so there are no infinity views from the black-tiled swimming pool. Instead, the pool looks through swaying palms and out over the Andaman Sea. A stone staircase leads to Pansea Beach, a rustic-chic restaurant, more swimming pools, a watersports center and tennis courts. An excellent spa is tucked away on the other side of the resort, overlooking Bang Tao Beach.
Amanpuri’s rooms are what is special here. The Garden Pool Pavilion plunge pools have to be the most secluded and private hotel swimming pools in Thailand. Don your bikini (or not) and splash in utter isolation. It is also worth noting that pavilions 103 and 105 have the most striking sea views.
2. COMO Point Yamu Resort, 45 minutes from Phuket Airport
Point Yamu by COMO is a luxury resort located at the tip of Cape Yamu overlooking the Andaman Sea and the dramatic limestones of Phang Nga Bay. Interiors by Italian designer Paola Navone offer a unique expression of contemporary Thai luxury. Facilities include a COMO Shambhala wellness retreat and two world-class restaurants for Thai and Italian cuisine.
The Verandah Pool Suites each have a four-poster bed, a living room, a verandah with comfy loungers, and a private aqua-tiled infinity pool, where you can watch the sunrise.
The impressive 100 meter main infinity pool has sun loungers overlooking Phang Nga Bay; lie back and enjoy the fruity icy poles that are regularly brought to guests. The pool is perched by La Sirena restaurant where you can order lunch to your sun bed.
The cliffside location of this hotel means spectacular Andaman Sea views, but not direct access to a private beach. However, the resort does have a private COMO Beach Club, 40 minutes by complimentary boat shuttle from the hotel.
3. Paresa Resort, 45 Minutes from Phuket Airport
With beaches and luscious forests that seem to wrap all around you, Paresa Resort is nestled in tropical forests and perched high above the ocean. It offers stunning panoramic sea views.
The design is an unusual mix of the Southern Thai style with a modern influence; pavilion-style ceilings and rich timber finishes help create a clean, spacious atmosphere. The general mood is calm, with understated style and sophistication.
With every room offering stunning ocean views you are spoilt for choice. Most come with a private infinity pool with heavenly views across the Andaman Sea and large sunny balconies with four poster sun loungers. This is really all you need to melt away your stresses and to watch the blissful sunsets. For an occasional change of scenery, Paresa’s main 25-meter saltwater infinity pool is impressive, with a poolside bar to add to the glamour.
