For a fabulous, ultra-chic staycation destination (or for international readers, a fantastic base to explore the north of England) Seaham Hall is a 5-Star boutique hotel based in County Durham in the north of England.
Location
Seaham Hall benefits from a picturesque cliff top position with sea views stretching as far as the eye can see. You are ideally placed to explore the Durham’s heritage coast and countryside and the local harbour town of Seaham is packed with delightful bars and cafes, a gorgeous beach, as well as a 1950s style Ice Cream parlour and one of the oldest churches in the country. Some of the north of England’s most loved cities are on your doorstep too; with Sunderland being just 5 miles away, Durham City 14 miles and Newcastle 18 miles. The hotel is near two international airports; Newcastle (24 miles) and Durham Tees Valley (33 miles).
Style & Character
It’s no exaggeration to say that this hotel is ultra-stylish. The hotel itself is a beautiful Georgian Mansion dating back to 1791 and is steeped in history and charm. But don’t think that the décor is going to be dated and fusty, it’s been immaculately and lovingly restored and is basically the exact opposite: elegant, sophisticated, with a fabulous dose of British eccentricity and stylish bursts of colour. Outside is stunning too; the hotel is set in 37 acres of beautiful landscaped gardens overlooking the sea.
Service & Facilities
It’s hard to talk about anything apart from the amazing Spa when you talk about the facilities here! The tranquil Serenity Spa includes a 20-metre swimming pool with massage stations, outdoor hot tubs and a sun terrace, steam room, sauna, a well-equipped gym and an aerobics studio. Some pampering time is a must here; there are 17 exquisite treatment suites and the bespoke treatments are tailored exactly to your needs to ensure that you leave an altogether refreshed and revitalised you! If the beautiful outdoors calls to you, why not use the hotel’s complimentary mountain bikes to explore or practise on the putting green in the grounds.
You can always tell a place is much loved when you realise they are multi-award winning, this is certainly the case with Seaham Hall, they were awarded the Conde Nast Johansens UK Readers’ Award 2017 as well as ‘Small Hotel of the Year’ award at the 2015 North East Tourism Awards among many others, with several awards for the spa and restaurants too.
Rooms
Rather than rooms, it’s all Suites at Seaham Hall; stunningly luxurious, uniquely designed, spacious suites of course. All your usual amenities are included as standard: air-conditioning, flat screen TV’s, Nespresso coffee machines, exclusive toiletries and complimentary Wi-Fi. Your view, framed with Georgian windows, will be beautiful whether it looks out to sea on down on the gardens. The Garden Suites include a secluded, private lawned garden and terrace; make sure to opt for Suite 4 which also includes a hot tub! Or for a truly grand stay, go for The Penthouse; an ideal suite if you are going to be entertaining in its huge, stylish lounge room.
Food & Drink
There are two renowned restaurants here; Byron’s Restaurant is a fine dining experience that oozes opulence, it celebrates the best of British ingredients, showcasing local suppliers and seasonal produce, the daily changing menu means there’s always something new and creative to sample. The Ozone is a Pan-Asian Restaurant set within the calming surroundings of the Serenity Spa, it’s a relaxed, sociable place and they serve a mean cocktail too! The outdoor terraces are heavenly, with views across the gardens and across to the dramatic coastline below; in the afternoon relax with a coffee and then switch to G&Ts as the sun starts to lower in the sky. Seaham Hall does the little extras exceedingly well, the Afternoon Tea is an institution and this summer they are also running a totally fabulous adult ice-cream cabin with some creative flavours and frozen cocktails too!
