For an exquisite paradise destination with a bit of privacy, a whole lot of luxury and the chance to get away from the daily grind and reconnect with each other, the Sublime Samana Hotel & Residences in the Dominican Republic really has it all.
Location
The Sublime Samana Hotel & Residences is nestled on a beautiful, unspoilt beach next to the pristine waters of the Samaná Peninsula surrounded the dramatic lush, green jungle-clad hills in Bahia de Coson in the Dominican Republic. You are just 20 minutes from Samana’s El Catey Airport and an hour and a half from Las Américas International Airport in Santo Domingo and there are shuttle buses that run from both airports to the hotel. Although it’ll be tough to drag yourself away from your little corner of paradise, there’s a lot to do in the area; the hotel can arrange tours including visiting caves, turtle viewing and humpback whale watching, or how about hiking or riding horseback to the exquisite El Limón waterfall. Los Haitises National Park and Las Terrenas village are also nearby and snorkelling, scuba diving, and sailing can also be arranged.
Style & Character
The suites and casitas are architect-designed and the result is a spacious, stunning collection of buildings. The style is minimalist modern, think huge floor-to-ceiling windows, open floor plans and private balconies and terraces. The furnishings are elegant, the mood is tranquil and there are views of the beautiful pools and shimmering sea and mountains beyond everywhere you go.
Service & Facilities
Sublime Samana is a boutique property and a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. The beach itself is a major attraction here; six miles of stunning, undiscovered palm-fringed sands. The pool area is quite a treat too; there are two main pools which are connected by long stream-like pools, you can also (and you must!) rent smaller private pools with plush cabana beds; you’ll be totally set for the day! To continue the indulging, there is the luxurious 5,382 ft² Coconut Whispers Spa; take your treatment in one of the treatment rooms or my favourite option, right on the beach itself, with the gentle sounds of the ocean aiding your relaxation. If you’re feeling active there’s also a 24-hour fitness centre, tennis and basketball courts and wonderful yoga and meditation classes. The service is warm and extremely attentive, they repeatedly go above and beyond to ensure they have happy guests.
Rooms
This intimate, boutique resort offers just 18 private suites in the main building and eight private casitas. Although the suites are stunning, the casitas offer just that little bit extra privacy and space and also include private outdoor Jacuzzis too; there can be few more romantic spots from which to watch the sunset over the ocean below. You can opt for a private rooftop terrace with your casita – top tip, make sure that you do this, the views simply don’t get any better!
Food & Drink
French and Mediterranean fusion cuisine is served at the Bistro restaurant, there is a connecting lounge too that does a mean cocktail! They’ll also serve you right on the beach for a private, extra-romantic meal. For a more relaxed, beachy-vibe, hit the Poolside Grille, they serve delicious grilled fish, lobster, wraps, burgers, and salads in an open-air, waterfront setting.
