Book A Hotel

Central Java in Indonesia offers a lush and volcanic landscape. It forms a stunning backdrop for numerous excellent luxury spa hotels that are located in this remote part of the world. Escape the crowds, relax and unwind to the sounds swishing trees and birdsong. There is nowhere quite like Central Java.

Mesastila Resort & Spa

Our favourite hotel in the area is MesaStila (pictured above). The location of this hotel is truly unique. Surrounded by volcanoes (eight in total); the setting is utterly remote and truly breathtaking.

The hotel is located on a working coffee plantation about two hours’ drive from Yogyakarta Airport. A stay here will immerse you in the stunning mountain scenery pictured above. Rooms look out on the 22 hectares of lush, tropical gardens and are cooled highland air. Buildings are historic and date back to the Dutch colonial age. Each of the twenty-three villas is unique in décor, and each is lovingly furnished in a way that celebrates local style while providing every luxurious touch a discerning guest could wish for. An impressive collection of antiques goes a long way toward creating the very special character of this resort, and each villa has been built to resemble a traditional Javanese antique Limasan, Joglo or Kudus wooden house.

The spa is award-winning with Indonesia’s only Turkish hammam baths. Treatments include massages, reflexology, body scrubs and wraps – some of which harness the powerful anti-oxidant properties of the locally grown coffee bean.

For us, a highlight is the infinity pool makes you feel like you are swimming through the treetops. This paradise is the perfect place to switching off from everyday life.

Amanjiwo

Our second choice is Amanjiwo in Java, an elegant and palatial resort featuring dramatic limestone pillars and domes sat amidst the jungle. Immaculate finish combined with flawless service make this hotel worth stopping by.

Villa Borobudur

Our third choice is Villa Borobudur, built on the slopes of the Menoreh mountains, overlooking the Borobudur temple, and enjoying spectacular views of the surrounding volcanoes and lush jungle landscape.

A member of Small Luxury Hotels, Villa Borobudur offers all the privacy of a private villa combined with the service of a five-star hotel, you really can enjoy the best of both worlds here. There are six villas in the Villa Borobudur complex, each with its own unique character and style. Outdoors, there is a large private swimming pool with sunbeds, all positioned to make the most of the stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

Villa Borobudur is a one and a half hour drive from Yogyakarta airport. It is worth mentioning that the Queen and Prince of Denmark stayed here for a holiday after a state visit, so it has a royal seal of approval.

Singapore Airlines offers flights to Yogyakarta from Heathrow with a stop in Singapore, while Lufthansa flies from London City via stops in Frankfurt and Singapore.
