Receive complimentary breakfast at Luxury Hotels

We are a huge fan of Intercontinental hotels having recently reviewed Intercontinental London the O2 and we also love the Club Lounge at the London, Park Lane Intercontinental.

InterContinental Amstel Amsterdam is no exception and offers stunning views of the Amstel canal and an amazing pool where you can swim overlooking the same rippling canal. In the summer it is a particular joy to sip a beer on the terrace at the water’s edge.

If you decide to book this hotel, it is worth doing so via our luxury travel concierge to benefit from complimentary upgrades, breakfasts and more.

Location

This beautiful hotel is situated on the banks of the river Amstel, a short distance from the main tourist attractions of Amsterdam. It’s a pleasant walk from the centre and attractions, including the Rijksmuseum (a must see), the Van Gogh Museum and the Anne Frank Museum, amongst others.

Style & Character

Opened in 1867, this hotel exudes a regal, relaxed format throughout the property. As you tour the place, you get a sense of pride from the attentive staff, who acknowledge and greet at every occasion, in a formal and friendly manner.

Service & Facilities

There are generous business facilities, combined with all the luxury that you would expect from a premier hotel.

A very decent sized pool with spa is located on the upper level of the hotel, which is perfect for that late afternoon rest after a day of sightseeing. Ample eating and dining facilities are available, with also the option of room service. A very helpful concierge desk awaits your trip planning.

Did I mention breakfast? Don’t miss it. There is also a very intimate private dining room that will accommodate about 12 people which is ideal for a personal celebration.

Rooms

There is a total of 79 rooms in the hotel. When you enter the property, the grandiose lobby would suggest a much larger property. The rooms vary in style. There are two different decors, red or blue wallpaper; You can pick which room you prefer.

The penthouse suite is large, with a mansard roof overlooking the river Amstel, wonderful ensuite bathroom and a desk and sitting chair to enjoy the view.

There is access to the Amstel Lounge which also has wonderful views from a more elevated perspective, with a glass roof where natural light streams in. Enjoy the drinks and snacks.

Food & Drink

There are four establishments to enjoy food and drink. Restaurant La Rive and the Amstel Brasserie are located in the basement, and enjoy the most wonderful views at canal level, giving a sense that you are floating on the canal. Champagne breakfast is served in the restaurant, and it is quite an amazing display of food.

There is also an option to have an individually prepared breakfast. On the ground level in the lobby, there is the A Bar, where there is an extensive cocktail menu and the bartender is very knowledgeable about what you are just about to enjoy. The first floor is where the Amstel lounge is situated. If time allows, enjoy the afternoon tea – another occasion to savor.
