The romance of the stunning Yorkshire Wolds in England means that when you visit your accommodation simply must be appropriately matched and Clara’s Cottage exactly meets the brief!

Location

The cottage sits in an idyllic spot beside the pretty Gypsey Race stream in the quiet village of West Lutton in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds. There’s a lot of wonderful sights to explore in the surrounding area; Sledmere House, Castle Howard and Burton Agnes Hall are a must. The historic walled city of York is nearby and for sandy beaches head to Filey, Scarborough and Bridlington or there’s the huge chalk cliffs at Flambourough Head. Even exploring from your own front door will find you some fabulous walks, up Thirkleby Wold or through the surrounding fields. Even better, this is a relatively peaceful and undiscovered area so it’s not packed with tourists like some parts of very-popular Yorkshire.

Style & Character

Clara’s is a stunning Grade II listed, chalk-built, early 19th century cottage. Originally an estate worker’s cottage, the quirky property has been thoughtfully extended and renovated. Now there are exposed roof timbers and floor joists, a whirlpool Jacuzzi bath and log burner; all the ingredients for a cosy, romantic break.

Service & Facilities

Inside you’ll find two double bedrooms, one single bedroom, a bathroom, dining room and sitting room ‘snug’ with the wood-burning stove. The huge country-style kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to self-cater, including some things you just don’t expect like a Nespresso coffee machine, sandwich maker, slow cooker and hand blender! Outside the enclosed lawned back garden is home to an adorable south-facing summerhouse as well as outdoor table and chairs and a barbecue perfect for sunny days. There is off-road parking and if you’d rather be on two wheels, you can borrow bikes and use the secure bike storage.
The owners are keen to ensure you have a real home from home experience while you are their guests; there is a generous welcome basket of local produce, they provide logs for the wood burner, in-depth local information, all the towels and linens are from The White Company and the toiletries are Molton Brown. These little extras really go a long way and make you feel very welcome and perfectly at home.

Rooms

With the three bedrooms, the cottage can comfortably sleep 5 guests. The bathroom features the Jacuzzi bath as well as an overhead shower.

Food & Drink

Self-catering is a great option here and produce simply has to come from Jeff at Grace’s Cottage which is just opposite the cottage. Here you can purchase eggs and fruit and veg fresh from his allotment around the corner all with a lovely honestly box system. However, on holiday you need to spoil yourself too and this is more than possible in Yorkshire which is well-known for it’s excellent country pubs. West Lutton is home to the friendly The Three Tuns which served delicious home-cooked food or venture slightly further and try The Blue Bell or The Star in nearby Weaverthorpe or The Triton Inn at Sledmere.
