If the layover is important to you, I am also a fan of Etihad’s First Class Lounge & Spa in Abu Dhabi. Even if you are traveling in Economy or Business Class, you can pay to use this outstanding lounge.
What Shall I Do With The Etihad Guest Miles I Earn?
One disadvantage (at least to UK flyers) is that, unlike Qatar, Etihad is not a British Airways partner, so you can’t credit the miles you earn to your BA Executive Club account.
If you credit your miles to Etihad Guest, you can redeem them for cash via PointsPay, but the value is pretty poor at around 0.4p per mile. A slightly better option is to buy gift cards via Reward Shop. You can buy amazon.co.uk gift cards for around 0.45p per mile. Etihad also offers a family account here. You can combine the miles earned, which means it is easier to build up enough miles to use on an Etihad flight.
Possibly the best option is to credit your miles to SAS instead of Etihad. You can then quite easily redeem these miles across all of the Star Alliance airlines. Star Alliance airlines include Air Canada, Air China, Air India, Air New Zealand, ANA, Asiana Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Avianca, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa, SAS, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, Swiss International, TAP Portugal, Thai Airways, Turkish Airlines, and United.

In this trip report, I flew in the Etihad Airways First Class Apartment from London Heathrow Airport to Male International Airport (Maldives) via a stopover in Etihad's hub in Abu Dhabi.
