I love when I fall for somewhere on a film and then find out where that place is so I can go and feel like a movie star! This is EXACTLY the case with the charming Skopelos Village Hotel on the Greek island of Skopelos; location of the smash hit musical blockbuster Mamma Mia.
Location
The island, located in the western Aegean Sea, boasts clear blue waters, lush vegetation, beautiful beaches and picturesque little villages that we all fell in love with in the movie. The family run hotel lies in a pretty protected bay right by the sea front and a 15-minute walk to the delightful town of Skopelos. The hotel also offer shuttle services to the port and to two of the island’s most popular beaches.
Style & Character
The beautiful hotel is designed to resemble a Greek village, hence the name. It was founded more than 30 years ago by the current owners Grandfather. The accommodation is modern, airy and welcoming; it’s classically Greek with a touch of country-chic and it’s very apparent why so many stars of the film chose to stay here during filming.
Service & Facilities
Relax by the pool and soak up the sunshine. There’s plenty of comfortable sunbeds and there’s a play area next to the pool so you can keep an eye on your little ones as they entertain themselves; what a wonderful setup! There is a 24-hour reception and the staff are very friendly and are keen to help with anything that you might need. There’s a real genuineness to the place which comes from the people who work here, perhaps in part because it’s family owned but everyone seems to have a smile!
Skopelos Village also offers a wonderful wide range of activities including but not limited to scuba diving, pottery, cookery, cocktail lessons, visits to the vegetable garden to learn about harvesting in Greece and so much more.
Rooms
There are Double Rooms which are beautiful and very well equipped but as a luxury traveller, you’re going to want to stay in a suite! There are Two Bedroom Suites which have separate living rooms and a balcony overlooking the Aegean Sea or the gardens. The seven Sea Breeze Suites are ideal if it’s just the two of you. They include large living rooms and balconies that enjoy the most spectacular sea views. The Junior Suites are a bit bigger and can fit an extra child if required or just give you that little bit more room to stretch out. Again, your balcony can have sea or garden views; definitely request the sea views, it’s worth it!
Food & Drink
Dine at the Agioli Restaurant & Bar and enjoy the excellent location overlooking the sparkling sea. The chefs pride themselves on using fresh, local ingredients to create delectable Skopelitian delicacies and traditional Greek dishes. Start the day with a delicious buffet breakfast and end it with a cocktail or fine wine at the bar as the sun sets across the bay.
