For a wonderful example of nature tourism at its most authentic, stay at the stunning jungle eco resort Jungle Camp Eco Resort located in Khao Sok National Park in Thailand.
Location
The resort is nestled in the unspoiled Khao Sok rainforest in southern Thailand. This heavenly location means you are surrounded by nature and diverse wildlife, and the resort benefits from sensational views.
Style & Character
This is a place to come with your nearest and dearest to share experiences and reconnect with nature and each other at the same time. The rustic chic buildings are built from bamboo and renewable materials and so blend perfectly with the jungle that surrounds them, connecting you to your natural surroundings.
The eco resort leads by example and has exceptional environmental practices.
They minimize their use of power by foregoing air conditioning and televisions. They also reduce plastic waste with purified water and run their own educational organic farm. And it’s not just about supporting the environment. They also give back to the local community; each visit to the resort subsidizes an onsite nature camp for Thai children from all walks of life, allowing them to learn about nature.
Service & Facilities
In your reflective moments, you can relax at the resort, practice yoga, take a Thai cookery class or just swim in the river. The resort is still relatively new, so the facilities are improving all the time. The latest addition will be a museum housed in a converted water tower. Despite the delights of the resort, you’ve come to the jungle to explore and be amongst nature, so most of your time will be spent on tours and trips.
The hotel staff are excellent at recommending and arranging these for you, and I would definitely recommend you discuss with them what you want to do and leave yourself in their very capable hands. One of the most popular tours is the incredible full-day Cheow Lan Lake tour, which includes a day of hiking, cave exploration, swimming, and relaxing on the floating bungalows of the stunning lake at the Khao Sok National Park, it has over 100 islands overshadowed by majestic limestone cliffs and you will be surrounded by wildlife like gibbons and hornbills.
To see the jungle come alive from a totally different perspective, try the amazing Night Safari. The 2 hour hike introduces you to the amazing night animals; from bats, to insects, frogs, to deer and even the elusive jungle cat.
Rooms
Your accommodation options sound as wonderfully authentic as the resort itself. Choose from a Treehouse, a Bungalow, an Earth House, or a Bamboo Hut. All the guest rooms have a balcony offering stunning views of the river or nearby jungle and each has a private bathroom too. The Earth House rooms are perfect if you crave slightly more solid walls, and the Bamboo Huts are a great simple option, but the Bungalow and Treehouse give you an awesome back to nature experience.
The gorgeous Treehouses can be single or double storey and you literally sleep high in the trees and the Bungalows are set alongside the river so simply choose your aspect and you’re set.
Food & Drink
The restaurant here is called “Farm” which gives you some clue as to just how fresh the delicious cuisine is. The farm to fork approach couldn’t be stronger with the food coming directly from the onsite farm. The expert chef blends traditional and modern Thai cuisine in the gorgeous open-air restaurant and the whole experience is only enriched when you end your meal with a signature cocktail or two in the casual bar.
