Premium Economy is taking over from Business as the leisure travelers preferred way to travel. More space, better food, and the escape from the confines of Economy, without bankrupting your wallet, meaning that many travelers will choose to fly in this class.
Most airlines have now introduced Premium Economy, and Air France has launched a new Premium Economy Cabin on their Airbus A330. There will be 15 A380s in their fleet in 2019, which includes Premium Economy. The main benefits are seats with 48.3cm of width and 102cm of pitch (compared to 44×79 in Economy), 130-degree recline, and a 2-3-2 layout (compared to 2-4-2 in Economy) meaning there is only one “bad” middle seat per row.
Other advantages include a larger 13.3-inch HD screen (compared to 11.7 in Economy), a power outlet, and two USB ports in each seat.
You get a pillow and blanket and an amenity kit along with an improved food offering.
Air France has spent €150 million EUR ($176.3 million USD) on the refurbishment, representing a “major step in [the airline’s] overall strategy to move upmarket,” according to Anne Rigail, EVP customer at Air France.
In addition to new seats and a new Economy and Premium Economy cabin look, passengers will be welcomed with an oshibori (hot towel), “a complimentary glass of Champagne in a brand new glass,” and a meal served on tableware designed in collaboration with Eugeni Quitllet.
