I took a mammoth long-haul flight from America to Asia flying Swiss Airlines in Business Class this summer and reviewed both legs of the journey. I reviewed the first leg of my journey previously, which was New York JFK to Zurich ZRH on Swiss in their A333.
I then stopped over in Zurich. After a few gorgeous days in Zurich, I continued back to Asia on Swiss in Business Class again. This time, the plane was a Boeing 777-300ER, and it had a 3 class configuration. For Business class, the seats are configured in a 2-2-1 or 1-2-2.
I decided to try out Swiss Airlines, as I have never flown it before even though other members of the Luxury Travel Diary team had previously reviewed Swiss in Business and Swiss in First Class.
There are a total of 8 First Class seats, 62 business class seats, and 270 economy class seats. I was seated in 7D, the left seat in the middle, which gave me direct access to the aisle. Like my previous Swiss flight, the seat was 20.5 inches wide and had a pitch of 60 inches. There is a small table on the left side of my seat again. However, this seat has a slightly different side table set up, where there are two trays to store small items.
On the right side of my seat was a small divider table and panel between my seatmate and I. The dining tray table is pulled out from this panel. On the panel itself, there is a small dock to hold the noise-canceling headphones. The reading light is also situated here. Another notable difference between this flight and my previous one is the larger and newer TV screen in front of me. Underneath the TV is a closable drawer instead of an open one. On the left side of the screen is the magazine rack.
Waiting for me on my seat was a large pillow, the blanket, the noise-canceling headphones, and the amenity kit. While the amenity kit was also from Victorinox like my previous flight, the design for this kit was different – it was no longer in a metal box, but rather, a grey foldable pouch. Inside the kit were the usual suspects – a dental kit, earplugs, compression socks, and lip balm.
As we waited for the plane to be fully boarded, the flight attendants came around to serve the welcome drink and the menu. Similar to the previous flight, there were two meals on the plane, with the breakfast being optional if you need more sleep. We took off around 6:00 pm, and shortly after, the dinner service began.
For dinner, I had the shrimp as my main, which went along with some bread, salad, and of course, Swiss cheese. The shrimp was decent and went well with the glass of white Swiss wine I had. I did not eat dessert this time around, as I was quite full from the food in the lounge. However, I did try an item that caught my eye – a Swiss single malt whiskey called Johnette. It was surprisingly decent and sweet.
I watched some movies and TV series before getting some sleep. I slept quite well, maybe because the whiskey was so good. I woke up quite refreshed and ready for breakfast. This time around, breakfast was a typical European continental one, with cold cuts, cheese, fruits, and pastries. I had my breakfast with orange juice and coffee. It was solid, but nothing remarkable.
We landed in Bangkok at about half-past 9 in the morning. The total flight time was about 10 hours and 15 minutes, but I guess I must have slept for about 7 hours, which was surprising for me as well. Overall, the flight was quite decent.
Comparing the two Swiss flights, I prefer this one due to the nicer seat configurations. So, in a nutshell, Swiss Business Class on a B777-300ER plane is better when compared to Swiss on an A333 flight.
