I do like to be amongst glamourous company in my luxury hotels and hearing, as in the case of the stunning Velmoré Hotel & Spa in South Africa, that it’s frequented by the likes of Crowned Princesses, Presidents, Corporate CEO’s and South Africa’s VIPs, definitely installs me with confidence.
Location
The hotel is tucked in a gorgeous tranquil country setting that borders the Hennops River with views of the Magaliesberg Mountains. It lies between Pretoria, which is about 30 minutes away, and Johannesburg. It’s one of those places where you are near enough to the action, but it still feels like you have escaped. There’s lots to explore in the vicinity if you do fancy heading back to civilization; Forest Hill City retail shopping center with its retail outlets, restaurants, and cinema is 16km from the hotel, or spend a day on the golf course at Copperleaf Golf and Country Estate, feel the wind in your hair at Zwartkops Raceway or all the family will adore a day out at Croc City Crocodile and Reptile Park.
Best Time To Visit
South Africa is one of those tremendous all-year-round destinations. The summers here are hot and humid and run from November to March, so April to December may be your best bet. Visit from March to May or September to November for the optimum warm and dry weather but fewer crowds.
How To Get There
International guests will probably want to fly into O.R Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg. Direct flights from London to Johannesburg take 11 hours, or it’s 14.5 hours from New York. The airport is then just 60km from the Hotel. For charter services and domestic transfers, both Wonderboom National Airport and Lanseria International Airport are only 32km from the hotel.
Style & Character
The unique architecture, inspired by traditional French Provence, makes for a stunning, grand welcome. The hotel is traditional but just contemporary enough and includes all the mod cons that you welcome with luxury travel. Inside is very spacious, and the classic décor uses warm tones with more than a hint of art deco about it. The country setting is almost as significant as the building and lends a sense of serenity that engulfs the hotel and takes you with it.
Service & Facilities
The onsite facilities are perfect to guarantee your relaxation; laze by the swimming pool, book an indulgent treatment at the privately-owned Bakwena Day Spa, or wake yourself up with a session at the gym! There’s also secure parking and room service. The warm and welcoming staff go out of their way to give you a wonderful stay.
Rooms
The Velmore Hotel & Spa consists of both the Velmoré Hotel and the Velmoré Grande hotel. The Velmoré Hotel has 39 Standard Rooms as well as Luxury and Deluxe Suites; the Velmoré Grande has 18 Standard Rooms and 31 Luxury Suites. Discerning travelers will undoubtedly be at home in the gorgeous and very elegant Suites, or if you’re tempted by talk of the previous inhabitants, it has to be the ultra-grand Presidential Suite.
Food & Drink
Dine at the spacious, open-plan Restaurant Cabriere’s, which serves a wide-ranging menu featuring both international and local cuisine; the terrace is the place to sit if the weather permits. Head to lounge bar; Grande XO Bar, for an ice-cold beer, cocktail, or fine wine; the perfect end to your day.
We love this hotel because it gives its discerning visitors the perfect package for a country escape.
