We all have our opinion of the best Business Class airlines. We wrote a detailed article about our favourites.
Business Traveller Africa has made their decision and has chosen Emirates. It received the honor of Best Business Class for the second consecutive year,
They highlighted Emirates as the best international long-haul airline and the best airport business lounge. Emirates won The Lounge award for the dedicated lounge at Johannesburg’s O.R. Tambo International Airport, in the international departures terminal. Emirates also operates an airport lounge in Cape Town.
Emirates flies to 157 destinations around the world, in 85 countries, with 274 aircraft. In South Africa, two of the four daily Emirates flights to Johannesburg are served by the iconic Airbus A380. Emirates also operates three daily flights to Cape Town and a daily flight to Durban.
Why I Strongly Disagree
It is undeniable that Emirates is a very good airline with a decent Business Class, but is it the best? Hell no!
The Good
The success of Emirates’ Business Class is very much based on the comfort and space of its Airbus A380 fleet. The rest of the fleet offers an inferior Business Class.
The window Business Class seats are perfect for solo travelers, while the dual and more intimate seats in the center of the cabin are perfect for partners traveling together.
Mammoth amenity kits, a huge entertainment selection played on the private screen, and a roomy and well-appointed bar on the upper deck make flying Emirates quite an event, and in addition, the ground service matches the flying experience (e.g. chauffeur service, a gigantic Dubai lounge).
Lie-flat Business Class seats are available on all Emirates A380 aircraft and most Boeing 777 aircraft, but unfortunately, Business Class cabins on other aircraft offer only deeply reclining comfort or spacious sleeperettes. Overall, Emirates does not offer the best Business Class in the sky.
Airline With The Best Business Class
It’s Singapore Airlines. Their Business Class seats on the A350 and B777 aircraft are the widest in the world (too wide for comfort, according to some) at 30 inches or 75 cm, and this airline flies into Cape Town, so should have been considered for these awards.
The unrivaled space between each seat gives you direct access to the aisle. Featuring a dedicated sleeping surface for added comfort, the seat is designed to accommodate virtually any sleeping position.
In 2013, a new Business Class seat was launched on their Boeing 777-300ER and A350. It is less wide but is even better than the previous incarnation of the seat.
With Singapore Airlines, you will also enjoy a fine restaurant-style setting and culinary service at 30,000 feet. Each menu is specially created by an International Culinary Panel of celebrated chefs from around the globe. Put simply, Singapore Airlines makes Business Class look First Class.
