If you are looking to book a trip away this summer, you should not book before you have read the essential pieces of advice below, collated by our travel experts.
1. Don’t Book Direct
If you have a hotel in mind, but want the same room at the same hotel at a cheaper price, it pays to shop around and you should never simply book direct.
If you are looking to book into a luxury hotel, we share a secret that not a lot of people know.
2. Don’t Book Last Minute
If you’re going somewhere that everyone else wants to go, with a beach, a pool and so forth, the cheapest rooms at these hotels will probably sell out. The cheapest flights will also sell out. The earlier you book the better if you want a nice hot, sunny beachside vacation.
3. Be Flexible
If you want a real bargain, take a look at Luxury Travel Auctions. You will find incredible luxury hotel stays selling for a fraction of their value, but you will need to be flexible on your destination.
4. Go Somewhere Unpopular
Cities are rarely popular destinations in the summer holidays. The summer is the time when everyone else leaves town, so head to Paris, New York, London or more unusual cities like Hamburg, Berlin, Philadelphia, Chicago. Weekend rates can drop down to very reasonable rates, so you should be able to snag yourself a deal.
5. Book A Hotel With A Club Lounge
If you book a hotel with a club lounge and ensure you have access, you can save on almost all your meal and drinks costs. Outside America, even alcoholic drinks will be delivered in these lounges for free. We have reviewed the best club lounges around the world.
6. Go Out Of Season
Whereas the summer vacation is “in season” across most of the Northern Hemisphere, there are certain places where July and August are positively low season. Dubai gets super hot in the summer, but as a result, even the prices of the best hotels in Dubai are about a quarter of their high season rates. At some hotels, you can save as much as 90% off the usual room rates by travelling there when fewer people want to stay. Just remember, it is super hot in Dubai in the summer.
7. Don’t Go At All!
What are you doing booking a holiday when everyone else will be there too? The Cote D’Azur is a nightmare mass of tourists in July and August so don’t go in the summer holidays. Book a stay in September or October and enjoy the late summer sun, crowd-free streets and beaches for a fraction of the price.
8. Go Somewhere More Reasonable
So everywhere is expensive in the summer, right? Not at all, just manage your expectations. The Amalfi Coast, the Cote D’Azur, Marbella, Hawaii and Bermuda will be teaming with tourists and busy as hell. We like the Channel Islands, where all the hotels are far more reasonably priced and the beaches are some of the best in the world!
