Executive lounge access is a perk afforded to top-level Platinum Elite members, so if you are a top-level Platinum Elite member, you should get free lounge access at all the San Diego Marriott hotels with club lounges.

It is worth mentioning that there are plans for San Diego’s first Ritz-Carlton to be built in downtown San Diego. When this launches, it may beat THE US GRANT, a Luxury Collection Hotel, to the top spot below. Until then, THE US GRANT, a Luxury Collection Hotel, is the best Marriott Bonvoy hotel in San Diego.
1. THE US GRANT, a Luxury Collection Hotel
This newly restyled presidential palace has recently undergone a $13 million refresh and now immerses you in an updated world of storied elegance and legendary style. Reigning as Downtown’s crown jewel since 1910 and built by the son of President Ulysses S. Grant, THE US GRANT, a Luxury Collection Hotel offers classic luxury at its very best in downtown San Diego.
The hotel’s 270 guest rooms, including 43 suites, are immaculately designed and promise sumptuous serenity where custom drip-painting headboards bestow an enriching “sleeping with art” experience.
Across the room, a sleek 49-inch LED flat-screen television provides in-room entertainment. Ample power outlets and wireless internet ensure seamless connectivity. Artistic accents include a standing mirror and marble top credenza set atop glen plaid patterned carpets.
Enlist the expertise of the concierge to curate an itinerary for shopping, arts, and entertainment in the surrounding downtown locale, and explore San Diego’s pristine beaches and bay.
Celebrated for culinary innovation, Grant Grill & Lounge highlights local ingredients with craft cocktails and seasonal cuisine.
2. Marriott Gaslamp Quarter
A more moderate hotel when compared to THE US GRANT, Marriott Gaslamp Quarter is located in the heart of downtown San Diego. It is an elegant and upscale hotel with boutique-style service and premier dining and nightlife. If you want a pool, opt for the Marriott Marquis below, with its large resort-style pool. The Gaslamp does not have a pool but feels like an intimate, boutique hotel with better rooms and service than almost any other Marriott in San Diego.
Many Marriott Bonvoy members consider this hotel to be the best Marriott In San Diego with its great location, nice F&B venues, decent lounge, and Ritz-Carlton style of customer service.
At 0.24 miles from the Convention Center it is also one of the best hotels near San Diego Convention Centre. The hotel is also very close to Petco, maybe a block from the gates, and some of its rooms look out over the park. It’s actually around three or four blocks from the Convention Center on the waterfront.
306 rooms and suites feature a collection of unique amenities, including in-room smart desks, Wi-Fi access, and more than 8,000 ft² of av-equipped function space to cater for everything from small meetings to corporate conferences.
Dining options at Marriott Gaslamp Quarter are unparalleled among San Diego hotels. Soleil K serves fresh, innovative cuisine, Latitude Lounge serves as a friendly local hangout, and altitude sky lounge offers custom cocktails and a panoramic 22nd-story view of the city skyline.
Marriott Gold & Platinum members and guests staying on the Concierge floors have access to the Club Lounge. Expect an excellent lounge in terms of food offerings and service. Breakfast consists of scrambled eggs, bacon, oatmeal, cut fruit, and the usual bread and dry cereals, much like any domestic Marriott lounge. However, the club lounge is rather too small for the hotel and can get very busy. This club lounge is open for breakfast only on weekends.
3. Marriott Marquis Marina
Marriott Marquis Marina was built in 1984. Its advantages are a resort-y feel on the marina with a brilliant freeform tropical pool. This feature makes it a great hotel for a weekend break or to extend your conference stay.
This waterfront hotel overlooks its own private marina and is near numerous attractions, including Seaport Village, San Diego Convention Center, which is just 0.2 miles away, just a short walk. It is also near the Gaslamp Quarter, Petco Park, and Balboa Park.
Every hotel room and suite has impressive views of the city, San Diego Bay, or the Pacific Ocean. Recharge on indulgent bedding and take advantage of the relaxed reading chairs, flat-screen TVs, desks, and Wi-Fi; many rooms have private balconies. It is worth requesting one of these.
Concierge-level rooms grant access to Lounge perks, including free breakfasts, while suites offer generous living areas. The concierge lounge here is good in terms of offerings, but it is small for the hotel’s size and can be crowded. Breakfast consists of scrambled eggs, bacon, oatmeal, cut fruit, and the usual bread and dry cereals. This lounge closes on weekends completely, and guests get compensated with 1,000 points only per night when it’s closed.
Pamper yourself at the day spa, work out in the gym or take a dip in the lovely outdoor pools. Indulge with creative American, Mexican and Asian-fusion fare at the restaurants. Event planners love our recently redesigned indoor and picture-perfect outdoor venues, combining for more than 276,000 ft² of hotel function space.
Prices here start at around $400 per night, which is cheap considering the incredible location and facilities.
4. Pier South
Pier South is a nice property and is probably the only Marriott family hotel in Southern California that is directly on the beach. The rooms are large and nicely furnished. The hotel opened in 2014, so the facilities have a modern feel. Oceanfront rooms have a balcony overlooking the ocean and are the ones to pick.
Platinum members get a coupon to order anything on the breakfast menu other than alcoholic drinks. The downside is that the location is quiet out of season. Imperial Beach in the low season is a bit dead, although the hotel itself remains fairly busy.
5. Sheraton La Jolla
Sheraton La Jolla is located right next to a shopping center with a grocery store and restaurants. Parking is $15 a day. The hotel is fairly worn and dated.
The executive club lounge at Sheraton La Jolla is nice but basic. It is open 7 days a week, all day, so you can get drinks and snacks. You can also access this lounge at the weekend. Breakfast is limited and basic, consisting of a hot dish (something like an omelet), fruits, yogurt, oatmeal, granola, box cereal, fresh juice, coffee, and pastries.
The afternoon offering includes two hot dishes, melon, crackers, cheese, cookies, and drinks with two free alcoholic per person, then they charge. Weekend offerings (Friday morning through Monday) are less. The weekend “hot” dish at breakfast is toast with nothing at night.
6. Sheraton Mission Valley San Diego Hotel
Sheraton Mission Valley San Diego Hotel is a bog-standard Sheraton in a modern-ish building in the Mission Valley neighborhood. It has an executive club lounge with breakfast and evening food. Beer and wine are on offer but are not free and are charged to your room.
Other hotels with club lounges in San Diego include the San Diego Marriott Del Mar, which is closed on Weekends & Holidays except for breakfast in the mornings. The Marriott Mission Valley is also closed for weekends and holidays except for breakfast.
7. Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina
Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina ticks all the boxes with a nice lounge with views of the marina and a decent breakfast & evening spread. The reason this hotel is at the bottom of our list is that, regardless of the views in both directions towards the marina or downtown, the club lounge gets packed, and rooms have been described as 3-star and dated, making this a bad Marriott Bonvoy choice in San Diego.
Other Marriott Bonvoy choices in San Diego include the Four Points by Sheraton San Diego and Four Points by Sheraton San Diego Downtown, the Westin Downtown, Westin Gaslamp Quarter, and the San Diego Renaissance.
