While we aren’t keen on the new American Airlines marketing campaign, their international business class and improved airline lounges at their hub airports are excellent.

American’s Flagship lounges can be accessed by international business class customers, mid-tier elites and above flying international economy, ConciergeKey members, and mid-tier Oneworld partner elites, even when they’re flying American domestically. Their Philadelphia Flagship lounge is next to open.

While these lounges are not quite as nice as United Polaris lounges, they tend to be easier to get into.

They say: “Comprising nearly 25,000 ft², the new Flagship Lounge will have seating for 400 guests, offer an elevated dining experience with hot food and a specialty wine bar, incorporate updated décor with contemporary high-end finishes and provide panoramic views of the airfield. Additionally, six shower suites will offer customers traveling to and from more than 20 international destinations a private escape to refresh.”

“The all-new space will include areas for taking a rest, lounge-style seating, luxury showers, Wi-Fi, and ample wireless, USB, and standard power charging to keep customers connected. Flagship guests can choose from a variety of hot and cold entrees as well as a rotating chef-action station with made-to-order items. Premium wine, champagne, and local craft beer will be available to pair with any meal.”

So far, there are American Airlines lounges at New York JFK, Chicago O’Hare, Los Angeles, Miami and Dallas Fort-Worth. The lounges at Philadelphia and London Heathrow are soon to open and American has released renderings of their new Philadelphia lounge which you can find on travel blog View From The Wing.

The lounge area looks much like American’s other lounges with funky lighting and stylish chairs decked in dark red and brown.

Philadelphia and Chicago O’Hare, do not feature a separate Flagship First Dining room, since Philadelphia doesn’t see American Airlines flights with international first class.
