Update: The InterContinental Mendosa is now closed, so your decision now lies between the Park Hyatt and the Sheraton.
Which are the best luxury hotels in Mendoza, Park Hyatt Vs. InterContinental Vs. Sheraton? Of note, there is no Four Seasons hotel in Mendoza, and while these hotels are good, they are not the best hotels in Argentina.
While the Park Hyatt is easily the best overall, you may expect the InterContinental to come in position two, as this tends to be the better brand than the mid-range Sheraton. Still, the truth is that the InterContinental is not in a great location for tourists. You have to drive or take a cab to downtown Mendoza. The other two hotels are downtown, so either is a better choice.
The Sheraton is not in a fabulous location either, on a busy road, but it is convenient for the center. The Park Hyatt has the best location, best rooms, and best lobby, bars, and restaurant. This is our best choice in Mendoza.
1. Park Hyatt Mendoza
Park Hyatt Mendoza, with its magnificent twentieth-century French academy neoclassical façade, is a prestigious and emblematic five-star hotel.
It is located in the city center, opposite the historic Plaza Independencia, 15 minutes from the international airport, 30 minutes from exclusive wineries, and 90 minutes from the main ski resorts. This is your best luxury hotel choice in Mendoza.
Surrounded by imposing vineyard landscapes at the foot of the Andes and situated in one of the Great Wine Capitals, the hotel is an ideal destination for both leisure and business trips. Interiors are contemporary and stylish, with modern bathrooms featuring a mix of glass, mirrors, Kaua Club, and Spa amenities.
Just off the main entrance, Bistro M serves a tasty breakfast buffet from its open kitchen, while Las Terraza café is popular for alfresco drinks and snacks. This café also has a great bar and live music on weekends.
The reception atrium is impressive and has a two-level glass wall overlooking the courtyard of the hotel’s traditional Argentine grill restaurant, Q. Towards the back. You will find the Regency Casino Mendoza, where you can try your luck at the slots or 22 gaming tables until 6 in the morning.
Mendoza’s sunny, dry weather makes the outdoor pool a wonderful place to head, plus there is a gym which looks out at the pedestrians strolling Avenue Sarmiento.
2. Sheraton Mendoza
While you might prefer the Park Hyatt, which is an obvious luxury hotel choice in Mendoza and is directly located on the city’s central square, the Sheraton Mendoza is a very popular choice, particularly with members of Marriott Bonvoy who are looking for an executive club lounge. This Sheraton is a category 3 Marriott Bonvoy hotel.
The Sheraton Mendoza is really nicely located around a block from the main pedestrianized Avenida Sarmiento city center with all its shops, cafes, restaurants, and bars.
The Mirador Lounge and Restaurant is a highlight in terms of dining, and it is found on the 17th floor, offering neverending city and mountain views. The hotel also has a fitness center, an indoor pool, a small spa, and a Club Lounge.
The club lounge can be found on the top floor, is open from 11:00 am – 11:00 pm and serves breakfast, snacks, and a light meal in the evening. The lounge is big enough, and the breakfast is a good buffet with a few hot dishes (eggs, bacon, etc.), pastries, fruit, cereals, juices, coffee, and tea. Platinum Marriott Bonvoy members can also choose to have the (better) breakfast at the restaurant on the 17th floor.
In the evening, the club level entitles you to a free glass of wine, with red or white options available, along with complimentary cheese and crackers, free soft drinks, as well as sandwiches, cold cuts, and cakes.
3. InterContinental Mendoza
InterContinental Mendoza is located in a region of the world known for its wine. This hotel is located next to Mendoza Plaza Shopping, the city’s largest shopping mall, but is somewhat removed from the city center. You have to drive or take a cab to downtown Mendoza.
Adventure seekers can easily visit the foothills of the Andes or explore the local wineries. Unique features include a casino, the largest meeting space in west Argentina, an indoor pool, and a luxury spa.
While InterContinental mentions executive rooms, there is no mention of an executive club lounge on the hotel’s website, suggesting that there is no lounge at this InterContinental.
