Located in the very heart of Vienna, the center of Europe, and right next to the renowned Musikverein Concert Hall, this former palace offers a touch of imperial grandeur. Personally inaugurated by Emperor Franz Joseph I in April 1873, the hotel is an opulent retreat adorned with glittering chandeliers. It stands on a charming cobblestone sidestreet adjacent to the Ringstrasse, the iconic circular boulevard encircling Vienna’s historic center.

We were lucky to spend a week in Vienna in August 2024 and we were able to try and tour various hotels in Vienna. Hotel Imperial, which is part of the Marriott Bonvoy Luxury Collection, kindly offered me a tour, and as we were staying at the Ritz-Carlton, a 5-minute walk away and two blocks up, I was thrilled to have an explore this historic hotel. Hotel Imperial, a Luxury Collection Hotel is located on the magnificent Ring Boulevard (Ringstrasse), a grand circular boulevard that encircles the historic inner city of Vienna, Austria.

2. The Ritz-Carlton, Vienna

Located next to Stadtpark, directly on the famous Ring Boulevard within the city center, The Ritz-Carlton, Vienna combines the charm of four historical buildings with contemporary interiors, which feel very “Ritz-Carlton” but this hotel lacks much that is Viennese.

Located just a block or two from Hotel Imperial Vienna, this hotel is perfectly situated, with the cobbled historic streets of the old town only steps away across the street.

It boasts some of the largest standard rooms in the city, offering guests both space and comfort. For relaxation, visitors can unwind at The Ritz-Carlton Spa, which features a Health Club, Fitness area, and a 60-foot indoor pool complete with enchanting underwater music.

The Ritz-Carlton Vienna is a slice of American charm set in palatial Austrian buildings on the treelined ring road surrounding Vienna's old town. It has a spa, a decent-sized pool, which is big enough to swim lengths in, a popular rooftop bar with views across Vienna, and an Italian and a steak restaurant. In terms of facilities, this hotel ticks most, if not all, of the boxes. The Ritz-Carlton Vienna is very well located on Schubertring, around a 5-minute walk from the main shopping street of Vienna, and is an easy walk to most of Vienna's central palaces and gardens.

Hotel Bristol is less than a 10-minute walk from the Ritz-Carlton Vienna, less than 5-minute walk from the Hotel Imperial which is the other Luxury Collection Hotel (under the Marriott umbrella) in Vienna. It stands grandly on one of the main road intersections on the Ring Boulevard in Vienna. On one side, you can watch the trams whizz past, and directly opposite the hotel is a small garden and the entrance to a Vienna underground station.

4. Vienna Marriott Hotel

The Vienna Marriott Hotel is a Rewards Category 6 Marriott Bonvoy hotel located downtown in the historic city center, on the breathtaking Ringstrasse. Unwind in modern guest rooms and suites that have been recently renovated, and many have incredible city views.

There’s a fully-equipped Health Club and a heated indoor pool to enjoy after exploring Vienna. With an ideal location, guests can easily reach famous attractions like the Vienna Opera House or St. Stephen’s Cathedral, as well as celebrated shopping and dining.

The executive lounge is on the upper floor, which is a nice lounge. The breakfast is standard lounge fare, and evening dinner tends to be a mix of hot dishes and cold cuts. The hot dishes include offerings like chicken with rice and spring rolls, as well as small sandwiches and potato salad.

The Renaissance Wien (near Schonbrunn) is in a bad location compared to most of the other Marriott hotels in Vienna. You will spend a lot of time on public transit getting to and from this hotel if you are a tourist. Most tourist attractions are around the Ring and near the first district, which is nowhere near this hotel. The Renaissance Wien doesn’t have an executive lounge, but Platnum members get free breakfast.
