Receive complimentary breakfast at Luxury Hotels
The best hotel on the French Riviera is the Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, a Four Seasons Hotel, located near the small town of Saint Jean Cap Ferrat. I am often asked which is the best room at this hotel? Is it worth upgrading?
It’s worth immediately mentioning that you can get free loyalty style benefits at all Four Seasons hotels including a room upgrade if you book with a luxury travel agent like our luxury travel concierge so please do get in contact to find out more.
Our rates match those on the Four Seasons website, including discounted and special offer rates, but by booking with us, you get extra free benefits, including free breakfast, free room upgrade (subject to availability), a welcome gift, and a $100 resort credit. We offer similar complimentary benefits at over 1,000 other luxury hotels across the world.
Rooms at Four Seasons Cap Ferrat are split into two buildings. The main Belle Epoque building stands high and proud on the end of the Cap Ferrat peninsula. Hidden between the pine trees, a more modern building is designed with wavey lines and offers larger rooms, large balconies, and even private pools.
This secondary building offers only ground-level and first-floor level rooms connected by an exterior alfresco corridor. This means that the views are more limited in this block, but the soundproofing and room size are superior. There are also incredible blackout blinds in this building, so if sleep is your number one priority. It is worth considering one of these more modern rooms.
The Best Room At Four Seasons Cap Ferrat
Before I go through each room type separately, I’m going to give the game away and share my personal favorite regarding the rooms at Four Seasons Cap Ferrat.
Before I share my favorite room, I will share my ideal room requirements. Firstly I want to sleep well. I like my room to be quiet and dark, ideally with blackout blinds or curtains. Secondly, I like a modern, spacious room with a balcony so that I can sit out in the fresh air and write. Thirdly I like a modern bathroom with all the facilities.
So which is my favorite room at Four Seasons Cap Ferrat? The Deluxe Terrace Room.
Review: The Deluxe Terrace Room
This room (pictured above) has one king bed and one sofabed (or one crib by request). It’s 41 m² (441 ft²) with a large 9 m² (97 ft²) terrace. It fits 3 adults, or 2 adults and 2 children.
We book this room for myself, my husband, and my son, and it is perfect. Particular highlights include the superbly comfortable Four Seasons bed (although, to be fair, all the rooms at this Four Seasons will have the same bed). I love the automatic blackout blinds, so you can sleep until late. I love the modern design. The room is decorated in whites and creams with lots of mirrors, a large flatscreen TV, and a separate walk-in wardrobe. The large balcony is also a highlight as you can slide open the floor-to-ceiling windows and effectively enlarge the room by using the table and chairs set out on your own private veranda.
Another absolute highlight of this room is the bathroom which has a bath set in front of a window with one-way reflective glass. This means that you can enjoy plenty of natural light when you bathe. The bathroom and shower have their own separate cubicles, so more than one family member can use the bathroom at one time.
Finally, the light is brilliant throughout the room. If you book a Deluxe Terrace Room on the upper floor, there are skylights and plenty of large windows making the room feel airy and bright. The mirror lighting in the bathroom is also excellent for putting makeup on. To be honest, this is probably my most ideal hotel room period. It has everything.
Review: The Palace Sea-View Room
By comparison, the Palace Sea-View Room, which usually comes in at a similar price, is smaller at 30 to 38 m². This room comes with a King or queen bed, One rollaway, or one crib (by request). Select rooms feature a terrace, but this is not guaranteed, and the room we experienced in the category had a Romeo & Juliette style balcony. This room can take 2 adults, or 2 adults and 1 child.
What I like about this room is the history. To get to these rooms, you usually take the historic lift, which is an old-fashioned but immaculate lift with folding doors and cast iron detailing. The lift is quite an experience, as is the staircase which winds around it and is decorated with pictures of historic celebrities who loved the hotel.
The room itself has been beautifully finished and feels like you are stepping back in time. The views out to sea and across the gardens are fabulous. In the summer, the live evening music wafts up to your room in the breeze. But these rooms are smaller, can be noisier due to adjoining doors, do not offer the same degree of blackout blind, and are not as light, bright, or as modern in style as the Deluxe Terrace Room.
The lack of your own balcony is also a minor disappointment for me. That said, I know many people who would prefer the style of this room, so your choice really depends on what you are looking for from your room.
Review: The Superior Pinewood Room
All rooms at Four Seasons Cap Ferrat are great, but the Superior Pinewood Room is the smallest at 27 to 34 m² (290 to 365 ft²) and offers the least interesting views. I would honestly say that it is worth upgrading to the Palace Sea-View Room or the Deluxe Terrace Room.
The Superior Pinewood Room offers a King or queen, One rollaway, or one crib (by request, in select rooms) so can take 3 adults or 2 adults and 1 child; queen room: 2 adults.
If you’re staying in the low season and you fancy the gamble, you can book the Superior Pinewood Room via our luxury travel concierge, and you are likely to get a free room upgrade (subject to availability) to the Sea-View or Deluxe Terrace.
If you are booking in the high season (June to early September), don’t count on the free room upgrade. At this time of year, the hotel operates at close to 100% capacity, so room upgrades are few and far between. Nonetheless, it’s worth booking via our luxury travel concierge for the free breakfast, free room upgrade (subject to availability), welcome gift, and a $100 resort credit.
Review: Four Seasons Cap Ferrat Suites
All the suites are fabulous at Four Seasons Cap Ferrat Suites, I have personally toured almost all of them, and once again, your main decision here is whether you want views and Belle Epoque splendor or whether you want a modern suite with your own private pool. Such decisions are problems for those blessed enough to afford these rooms. If you are one of the lucky few, you can be confident of having a fabulous time in any of the suites as they are all very special.
