The River Walk is a great place to base yourself within downtown San Antonio. It flows through five miles of downtown with great shopping, restaurants, and nightlife. Try the local puffy tacos, where traditional taco fillings meet a golden-fried, crispy, puffy tortilla.
If you are visiting for a conference, you will want to be near the Henry B. González Convention Center, the City of San Antonio’s convention center. The convention center is located in Downtown San Antonio, Texas, actually on the banks of the River Walk, and is close to lots of hotels. There is an overwhelming number of Marriott Bonvoy, Hyatt, and Hilton hotel options in San Antonio, where you can earn and burn hotel points when you are at your conference.
If you want to stay in luxury while you conference in and around San Antonio, Texas, try Hotel Emma. It is not the closest hotel to the convention center but is certainly one of the most luxurious hotels in town. The St. Anthony, a Luxury Collection Hotel, is another great option and is within half a mile of the convention center.
Other luxury hotel options include Mokara Hotel and Spa, Hotel Valencia Riverwalk, and La Cantera Resort & Spa (which is outside the city but could work for a mini-break pre or post-conference).
1. Grand Hyatt San Antonio
If you want to be so close to the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio that you can literally roll out of bed, out of the lift, and into the convention center, pick the Grand Hyatt San Antonio which is actually connected to the convention center and is 0.0 miles away from the convention center. Love it.
And this is a great Hyatt, too, right inside the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. It embraces historic Texan hospitality on the River Walk and celebrates the history and charm of the Alamo City with an elegant style. It is a smart hotel and just steps from the River Walk in the heart of downtown San Antonio. It has a nice fitness area and has a heated outdoor pool open all year round, which is pictured above. It’s on the roof, so you can swim out under the stars.
The Grand Club Lounge at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio serves food and drinks for most of the day and is your best club lounge choice in San Antonio downtown, too.
Breakfast is excellent for a club lounge with hot options, eggs, sausages, hot oatmeal, bagels, bread, jam (jelly), cereal, muffins, yogurts, cheese, tomato, cold cuts, and fruit. Oddly, there are also Tortillas with sauces and cheese for breakfast.
Mid-afternoon snacks are nuts, dried fruit, and chocolate-covered pretzels, all set up in glass jars on marble work surfaces that you can help yourself to.
The evening hors d’oeuvres include cheese and crackers, salad items like cucumber, tomato, etc., vegetables, cold cuts, and a hot meat dish like chicken. Enough to fill you up.
The alcoholic drinks are at a cost but are the cheapest of any club lounge in the area, with wine costing $3 USD for a glass and $4 USD for a beer or spirit. Dessert options are really nice, too; little chocolate cakes, brownies, and cupcakes are usually on offer.
2. The St. Anthony, a Luxury Collection Hotel
The St. Anthony, a Luxury Collection Hotel, San Antonio, is one of our top hotel choices for conference hotels in Denver. The St. Anthony, a Luxury Collection Hotel, is the closest true luxury hotel to Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, San Antonio.
While not awfully close, at 0.56 miles away from the conference center, and not the cheapest at around $429 USD per night, this Marriott Bonvoy Hotel (Category 5) is definitely one of the very best hotel choices for easy access to the convention center and serious luxury.
Situated in the heart of downtown, overlooking Travis Park, this AAA Four-Diamond hotel offers access to trendy restaurants and historic landmarks and, of course, offers great access to the convention center.
Visit The Alamo for a glimpse of Texas’ past or wander the idyllic waterfront promenade of the Riverwalk. Opened in 1909 and designated as a national historic site, St. Anthony is a Luxury Collection Hotel in San Antonio.
3. Hyatt Regency San Antonio Riverwalk
Hyatt Regency San Antonio Riverwalk is just 0.4 miles from the convention center and at around $300 USD per night, tends to be a cheaper conference hotel than the St. Anthony. Yet, it still maintains an excellent level of luxury that should satisfy most convention visitors.
Take in all of downtown’s offerings at Hyatt Regency San Antonio River Walk. From its soaring windows to its beautiful water feature, the light-filled atrium lobby sets the scene for your time here—at the only hotel located on the River Walk and overlooking the Alamo.
4. San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter
The San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter is the very closest hotel to the convention center after the Grand Hyatt, at almost an identical distance from the exhibition center as the Marriott Riverwalk, so if you don’t like walking, these are the two hotels to choose between! This hotel is just 0.1 miles from the convention center.
This Marriott hotel and the Marriott Riverwalk also both have club lounges, which give you a second reason to stay in these hotels. Marriott Rivercenter is ideally located to explore the River Walk because of its downtown location in San Antonio. It can also get very busy with conference attendees visiting for one of the many exhibitions and conventions that take place in San Antonio.
Of course, this means that this hotel is ideally located for meeting up with colleagues in the evening. This is a Marriott Bonvoy awards category five hotel and usually costs around $280 USD to $300 USD per night, so it is cheap compared to the most luxurious options in the area but is a long way from your budget hotel pricing.
Enjoy spacious rooms and River Walk attractions, including exhibitions at Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, the Shops at Rivercenter, fun activities at Legoland Discovery Center San Antonio, and Sea Life San Antonio Aquarium, or visit the Alamo.
Rooms and suites feature pillowtop mattresses, flat-screen TVs, ample desks, and Wi-Fi. Concierge-level rooms grant access to club lounge amenities, and suites offer generous living and dining rooms. There is a modern gym, or you can go for a swim in their indoor-outdoor pool. Southwestern cuisine is served at Sazo’s restaurant, and handcrafted cocktails are a specialty of The Bar. This Marriott club lounge is one of the best in downtown San Antonio, although it closes on weekends after breakfast. The food in this club lounge is excellent. Breakfast includes a hot dish, usually scrambled eggs mixed with veggies and plain scrambled eggs, cold cuts, cheeses, bread, cereals, etc. The evening food is substantial, with things like beef chili, chicken dishes, and competent staff.
5. San Antonio Marriott Riverwalk
San Antonio Marriott Riverwalk is a Rewards Category 5 Marriott Bonvoy hotel and usually comes in at around $280 USD per night, which is almost exactly the same price as its sister hotel, the Rivercentre, outlined above.
This is not the only thing that these two conference hotels have in common. They are both almost an identical distance to the conference center, just 0.1 miles away. Both can be found on San Antonio’s River Walk. The San Antonio Marriott Riverwalk is actually opposite the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.
The hotel is well maintained and sits directly on a nice section of the riverwalk, attached to a classy mall with an excellent food court (so you don’t necessarily need a club lounge at this hotel). It is also right beside an IMAX theatre and is a short walk to the Alamo.
This is a prime location for both business and leisure travelers alike to connect, meet, and unwind. Recently renovated hotel rooms come with stunning views of either downtown San Antonio or the picturesque River Walk. Rooms include a nightly turndown service to complimentary Wi-Fi for Rewards Members.
Those wishing to host a special occasion or important business meeting can take advantage of over 17,000 ft² of event space. The outdoor terrace with a backdrop of the scenic River Walk is also a popular place both to host an event or to catch up with friends over dinner and a cocktail. Finally, after a busy day at work and play in San Antonio, head to their state-of-the-art fitness center, complete with headphones, chilled towels, magazines, plus a great indoor pool.
This Marriott concierge club lounge is very good with its continental, including eggs & bacon. Decent appetizers styled towards Tex-Mex are served in the evening, followed by light desserts. This club lounge is, however, closed on weekends.
6. The Fairmount Hotel
The Fairmount Hotel is not to be mistaken for the Fairmount luxury hotels and resorts brand, which is part of the Accor hotel group. The Fairmount Hotel is a luxury downtown San Antonio boutique hotel with beautiful rooftop views. The Fairmount Hotel is also twenty minutes from San Antonio International Airport and is two blocks from The Alamo.
This charming hotel is a short walk from Riverwalk and is close to Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. It was recently renovated to restore its classical Victorian elegance and is just across the street from the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, one block from La Villita artists’ shops, and near the Riverwalk and The Alamo.
The hotel features 37 individually decorated rooms and suites, an exquisite banquet, reception, and meeting space, a jeweled granite and marbled courtyard, and a chic, family-style Tuscan Italian restaurant.
7. Hilton Palacio Del Rio
Hilton Palacio Del Rio is literally next door to the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio. You couldn’t get closer unless you pick the Hyatt in our number one position, which is connected to the convention center, so right on top!
Situated on the famous River Walk in beautiful downtown San Antonio, Hilton Palacio del Rio is just one block from the Henry B. González Convention Center. This hotel features rich South Texas stylings and original art and is just eight miles from the San Antonio Airport.
Every room is hacienda-style and has a balcony overlooking the River Walk or the city. Check out River’s Edge Café + Patio Bar, Tex’s Sports Bar (the only sports bar on the River Walk), and the famous Durty Nelly’s Irish Pub. They also offer Starbucks in their lobby level Coffee Cupboard along with a Fitness center, an outdoor pool, and 27,000 ft² of meeting space.
8. Sheraton Gunter Hotel San Antonio
Sheraton Gunter Hotel San Antonio is an older property with a beautiful lobby that combines modern decor with historic finishes. It is a historic hotel, centrally located downtown and within walking distance of plenty of attractions. Rooms are small with tiny bathrooms and unmemorable decor, with complaints of noisy air conditioning.
Club floor rooms provide access to the club lounge, offering breakfast and savory bites in the evening. Breakfast gets used up early, with hot dishes used up if you get in late, although cereals are still available. The evening canapes here are fairly limited to pastries, jalapeño mixes, and cheddar cheeses with crackers. This lounge is a pleasant place to relax and enjoy cocktails and wine, but wine and other alcoholic drinks are not free.
9. San Antonio Airport Hotel Located Near The Alamo
San Antonio Airport Hotel (which used to be Marriott Northwest) does not have a good reputation in San Antonio, but it does have a pool, a free shuttle service to the nearby San Antonio International Airport, and free parking.
It is located 10 miles from the convention center and around a 15-minute drive away if you have a conference downtown. While this hotel is not convenient if you want to walk to the convention center, if you are happy to take an Uber or a taxi and want to be close to the airport to fly in or out, this is a good and cheap Marriott choice. This hotel does have a club lounge but is one of the worst Marriott hotel choices in San Antonio unless proximity to the airport is a major deciding factor in your hotel choice.
