Five-star Sheraton Grand London Park Lane which we recently reviewed is running a lovely little family treat for its business guests. With business travel surprising some by climbing sharply, the hotel wanted to give something back. They’ve provided a mini library of favorite bedtime stories so guests can hop on a video call with their little ones back home and join in for the all-important pre-bedtime story!
When we heard that one of our much-loved London hotels was offering this service, we obviously had to check it out! And it really is delightful; the hotel left the books in our room, but guests can also collect them from the super helpful team at reception. You can request just one book or the whole collection. They’re even available in several languages. There’s no charge for this service. It’s just a lovely little extra. Although a little young for them now, my children first enjoyed a trip down memory lane with The Hungry Caterpillar, then snuggled further for one of our real favorites, The Gruffalo. I set up a tablet and video-call them on the family laptop, but you could also use your smartphone or laptop. The sheer joy on their faces when they realized that even though I wasn’t with them, we could still share this special time was magical.
The Sheraton Grand London Park Lane, part of Marriott International, has recently seen a sharp rise in its business travelers. Official data from Marriott’s London hotels has shown business bookings doubling since the start of the year. In the early days of the pandemic, reports were that business travel might not return and could be permanently affected, but Marriott report 2021 saw a “steady and gradual rise,” with a dramatic spike being seen in 2022.
This growth in business guests led the hotel to create the “Don’t Miss Bedtime” library. Parents will know just how important the bedtime routine is and many little ones now won’t even remember the days when their parents were working out of the home or were away on business travel. This makes the chance for parents to read to their children back at home all the more poignant. It means parents don’t have to miss this special time together, and sharing a beloved bedtime storybook virtually will be such a treat for the children.
Justin Pinchbeck, General Manager of Sheraton Grand London Park Lane, commented, “Since the start of the year, we’ve seen a considerable rise in guests staying at our hotel because of having to travel for work again. We were conscious that many people with young children might have become accustomed to being a big part of their children’s bedtime routine, something any parents will know is a priceless experience for both parent and child. As working from home becomes less frequent, we want to ensure that there was at least one element of home life they could replicate on the road when they were away from home for a period of time.”
