It’s always great to find a new start-up hotel, guest house, or glampsite, as you know, the owners will be bubbling over with enthusiasm and passion for their new business and will always go that extra mile to ensure your absolute comfort and enjoyment of your stay. This is absolutely the case with Katrina Boydon (affectionately known as ‘Mrs. B.’) and her new business.

Location

Barnutopia Luxury Yurts, a yurt-based camping ground in Oswestry, Shropshire. Situated on Tan y Coed Farm, just outside the village of Llansilin, Powys, on the Wales-England border.

Style & Character

Barnutopia currently comprises three beautiful yurts pitched in a lovely green pasture. Mrs. B. already has plans to develop the business even further with additional barn camping to be added in the stable loft as well as turning one of her barns into an event facility…

Rooms

If you love surrounding yourself with nature and rustic and rural pastimes, you won’t be disappointed at Barnutopia. Their three fully-furnished, luxury Mongolian yurts are neatly tucked away in the heart of the rolling green Shropshire countryside.

Available for self-catering, full-board, or bed and breakfast stays, each furnished yurt features a solid lockable wooden door; window; real made-up comfy beds (linen and towels are provided); homely cottage furniture; electricity; lighting; heating and free Wi-Fi as well as a double-layer groundsheet and felt insulation to keep you nice and toasty. In the yurt field, you will find a barbeque fire pit, outdoor furniture, and stunning views across the beautiful green countryside.

There are three yurts to choose from: the largest is Bronwyn at 5m wide which can accommodate six guests; the remaining two yurts: Carianne and Nanny Iris, are slightly smaller at just 4.2m wide and can each accommodate four guests. Guests can pitch their own small tent for £5 GBP per night. Guests can also hire a large (they call it the Big Yellow Tent) tent furnished with a rug, king-size mattress, bedside cabinets, pine chest, and battery lamps to increase occupancy from £17 GBP per night. An adult camping cot and a baby travel cot are available on request to increase the occupancy of the 4-man yurts.

As a guest, you have access to all the shared facilities, which include: a fully equipped camp kitchen (with kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge, and freezer as well as crockery, cutlery, and utensils); boot room; stable room; bathroom (with toilet, hand-basin, and power shower) as well as the dining room at breakfast and dinner time for those guests purchasing meals. Packing Tip: don’t forget to bring your slippers, as no outdoor shoes are allowed inside the yurts, and a torch is well advised for night-time trips to the toilet!

Service & Facilities

There’s plenty to do in the Welsh borderlands, including lots of hiking and walking trails, gardens, and national parks to explore. There are numerous castles and forts to discover in the surrounding area. For railway enthusiasts, there is the Cambrian Heritage Railway & Museum in Oswestry, which is just 7 miles away. For those looking for something more sedate and relaxing, you can enjoy trips on the horse-drawn boats at Llangollen Wharf. Barnutopia is also happy to arrange local mountain biking, rock climbing, and wild outdoor camping activities too. All you need to do is ask.

Food & Drink

If you choose not to self-cater, Barnutopia offers its guests the opportunity to stay on a B&B or full board basis as well as the opportunity to purchase a comprehensive range of generous, hearty, home-cooked, or takeaway meals (meals that can be provided are: breakfast, packed lunch, snack pack and evening meal, not forgetting their delicious pancake fest – all you can eat pancakes with a variety of toppings!). For those who fancy a drink in the evening, you can bring your own wine, beer, or spirits, and if you purchase dinner, a glass of wine, beer, or a soft drink is included too. Child-friendly meals and portion sizes are happily catered for too.

Conclusion

If you’re looking for a retreat in the rolling British countryside with plenty of hearty meals, cozy accommodations, and a friendly welcome, then you should definitely give Mrs. B. a call…
