Receive complimentary breakfast at Luxury Hotels
On a recent trip to Kuala Lumpur, I had the chance to stay in the excellent Four Seasons hotel. Kuala Lumpur, long known amongst frequent travelers as a city with cheap upscale hotels and cheap flights, is undergoing a hotel renaissance. A bunch of luxury hotels have opened, and there are more in the works, with the Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur being amongst the best luxury hotels.
Housed in the towering Four Seasons Place building next to the iconic Petronas Twin Towers and the KLCC Park, the hotel offers 209 guest rooms, suites, and 27 serviced apartments. This makes it fairly boutique for a city hotel, and you feel this boutique love from the moment you step through the doors. The Four Seasons Place building also houses a 6-storey luxury retail mall and 242 private residences. Location-wise, this is as prime as you can get in Kuala Lumpur!
Location
Part of the KLCC complex and adjacent to the Petronas Twin Towers, Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur is located at the center of the Golden Triangle neighborhood, the city’s exciting business, shopping, and entertainment hub.
I was dropped off at the hotel entrance, conveniently located away from the main road and facing the park. The ground floor entrance sets the tone perfectly, with luxurious marble and sculptures greeting guests before they get whisked away by the helpful staff to the sky lobby to check-in.
Style & Character
The sky lobby was airy and calm, with a nice minimalist touch. Three of the hotel’s dining spaces were also located here: CurATE, an all-day restaurant on the other end of the floor; The Lounge, a casual restaurant adjacent to the check-in area; and Bar Trigona, a cocktail bar behind The Lounge. I checked in and went up to my spacious room with floor-to-ceiling windows, which overlooked the park.
Room
The guest rooms at Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur are large even by Kuala Lumpur standards, measuring up to 689 ft². Upon entry, there was a small walk-in closet adjacent to the door. The closet led into the gorgeous bathroom, which housed separate cubicles for the rain shower and a futuristic toilet with a detachable touchpad control panel. The centerpiece of the bathroom was the beautiful bathtub. Complementing the bathroom were the superb high-end toiletries from Roja Parfums, the company founded by renowned perfume specialist Roja Dove.
After walking past the bathroom, the room opened up, with the large and comfortable bed facing a large smart Samsung TV. Filling out the edges of the room was a sofa lounge area and a work desk area. The views from the rooms are either of the KLCC park or the surrounding city skylines. A closet also opens up to reveal the Nespresso coffee machine, the cups and glasses, and a mini-fridge.
Executive Lounge
During my stay, I also had access to the Executive Lounge on the 7th floor, which I also reviewed. The huge lounge took up the whole floor and featured various seating arrangements, from dining tables to living room-style lounges. There was also an outdoor patio that overlooked the city skyline. The lounge served three meals a day: breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening cocktails, and featured a generous and aesthetically beautiful spread with everything from hot food to pastries.
There was also a chef manning a live cooking counter to prepare a few hot dishes freshly. I was also very impressed by the Pol Rogers champagne served in the lounge!
Service & Facilities
A review of this Four Seasons hotel would not be complete without mentioning the gym and pool facilities. These were located on the 7th floor. The gym was spacious and well equipped and was thought out instead of being an afterthought like many hotels.
The infinity pool is stunningly framed by palm trees and stretches across the floor. It offers a good length for people who want to do laps. There were also nice chairs for sunbathers and some cabanas for those who wanted to lounge and order food and drinks from the Pool Bar and Grill.
The hotel Spa and Wellness center was next to the pool for those wanting to relax further. The spa offered various treatments and massages. There was also a salon here for hair styling and treatments. I did try a traditional signature massage that involved clothed hot stone with herbs and oil. The treatment was magical, and I felt as light as air afterward. I later spent some time in the steam room and sauna inside the changing rooms to reach a higher zen.
Food & Drink
Breakfast was served at CurATE, the all-day dining restaurant that has two magical art installations with glass hibiscus flower petals suspended in the air and superb views of the park and city skyline. The food spread was very extensive, with different stations for local, western, and Middle Eastern options. There is also a noodle and congee bar and two separate islands for pastries and waffles. The service staff was attentive and even proactively walked around offering guests shots of juice boosters. CurATE also featured a buffet dinner with an equally impressive spread and fresh seafood.
The dining options at The Lounge, located next to the lobby, were more casual and good for high tea occasions. The space was gorgeous, with various seating options, such as the more private booths. A majestic grand piano also complements the space. I had a small bite and coffee there during one afternoon and was surprised by the number of guests having high tea there on a working weekday! Clearly, the Four Seasons is a popular place for the movers, shakers, and socialites of Kuala Lumpur.
Another equally popular dining option was Yun House, the Chinese restaurant on the 6th floor. I heard that reservations for their popular Dim Sum lunches during the weekends require bookings in advance despite the hotel being newly opened! Luckily, I went for dinner instead and enjoyed a nice four-course meal of black garlic soup, fried mantis shrimp, lobster noodles, and a mango cream dessert with vanilla ice cream. I really enjoyed the dinner while overlooking the KLCC park at night, where there was a musical fountain show.
I also found time to visit Bar Trigona, the gorgeous bar located behind The Lounge. The bar was named after a native stingless bee. Drawing on that, the bar incorporates local, sustainable ingredients, especially various types of honey, in their house specialty cocktails, which were delicious and refreshing. The charming bartender even poured a few small dials of the different types of honey that they used and offered me a guided honey tasting! I never knew honey could taste so different and complex, and walked away impressed and maybe a bit tipsy…
Conclusion
I checked out after two nights at the Four Seasons Kuala Lumpur. I left with a heavy heart but was satisfied knowing that the hotel has done a wonderful job setting the new benchmark for luxury hotels in Kuala Lumpur. I wholeheartedly recommend those who are seeking and accustomed to the finest things in life to stay here!
