Book A Hotel

JW Marriott Grosvenor House London is one of the best luxury hotels in London with one of the best club lounges in London.

Location

Located on Park Lane in the heart of Mayfair, our distinguished 5-star hotel offers exceptional accommodation, epicurean delights, and sweeping views over the London parks.

The Park Lane location is superbly convenient for Oxford Street shopping. In particular, Selfridges and the dreaded Primark are a short walk away. In the other direction, you will find Knightsbridge and Harrods for designer shopping, and directly opposite the hotel is Hyde Park, which has a lovely lake to walk around and often hosts concerts, fairs, and markets.

Style & Character

This JW Marriott has a traditional Marriott style with a rusty autumnal color palette. Downstairs hosts some restaurants, the club lounge, and lots of wide corridors adjoining the various eateries. While these corridors are perfectly nice, they feel a little cavernous and lack soul.

Rooms

There are seven suite types at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House on Park Lane, all refurbished in 2014: The Royal Suite is the hotel’s premium offering, followed in order of cost by the Premium Park Suite, the Park Suite, the Premium Executive Suite, the Executive Suite, the Superior Suite and finally the Executive Suite, the smallest of the Suite offerings at this JW Marriott. Pricing for these suites starts at around £1,200 GBP per night, rising to the Royal Suite at around £5,000 GBP per night.

We stayed in the Park View Suite (£1,750 GBP per night). Staying here was like having our very own apartment in my favorite part of London, with views over Hyde Park. The suite was beautifully decorated in a contemporary style, dressed in grey hues with orchids and other plants scattered around.

The living room was large, with two sofas, a coffee table, a desk, and a traditional fireplace. A long corridor joined this living area to the bedroom, bathroom, and front door. The living area looked west over Hyde Park and Park Lane, whereas the bedroom looked north over a side street.

The bedroom was exceptionally quiet (no adjoining doors and separated from next door by the corridor), decorated in the same greys with a dressing table, ottoman, various seats, and a huge and super comfortable super king bed, which provided a great nights sleep for the two nights we called this suite home. The bathroom also faced North and offered a large shower (no bath), basin with vanity area, and toilet. Toiletries were lemon-scented Penhaligon’s Quercus and were plentiful in large bottles.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay in our Park View Suite at the JW Grosvenor House. It felt homely, more like an apartment than a hotel room, partially due to its size but also to the light provided by the suite’s large windows and the comparatively quietness of the bedroom.

Club Lounge

Included with the suite is executive club lounge access at this JW Marriott. The entrance to the Grosvenor House’s lounge is on the ground floor, reached by following some stairs adjacent to the hotel’s reception area. After entry, your eyes are immediately drawn to an attractive floor-to-ceiling media wall showing colorful videos shot in Hyde Park. T

To your right sits a welcoming concierge, beyond which the lounge opens up to reveal some private meeting rooms to the left and two large communal lounges to the right, the latter of which backs onto the food and drinks offering. The natural creams and oatmeals make the lounge feel relaxing, and plentiful sofa-style seats arranged in groups of 2 to 6 offer guests plenty of room to relax.

A fireplace is lit throughout the day, and the temperature is a comfortable 23’C. Although there are no windows in this lounge, the interior design is such that I didn’t really notice the lack of natural light. One unusual thing about the lounge is the slight rumble of tube trains passing below occasionally, reminding guests that they’re in the heart of London.

The food offering in the executive lounge at the JW Marriott, London, is generous. The morning spread includes scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, sausages, cereal, and hot porridge. The main island area showcases many pastries, fruit and charcuterie, and cheeses. Actimel drinks, yogurts, juices, and coffees are also on offer. The breakfast is self-service, but there is plenty of room, and collecting the food is enjoyable.

Throughout the day, the food offering remains generous with cakes, cookies, and scones with jam and cream. I recommend the lemon drizzle cake – it is good enough to merit a second slice. There is also an all-day snack of nuts, smarties, sweeties, and crisps.

In the evening, there is a filling array of meal choices. For example, on Friday night, the food included a tasty vegetable noodle dish in soy sauce, lamb curry with rice, a cold noodle salad, cheeses, bread, and crackers, followed by some slices of deliciously good cake about an hour later.

There is a large selection of teas, coffees, plenty of still and sparkling water, canned Britvic juices, and Pepsi. In the evening, there is an additional selection of wines, champagne, and bottles of Stella Artois.

The lounge environment is enjoyable and never too busy, the staff are friendly and helpful, and it is a pleasant place to work, hold a meeting, or relax. The food is impressive, tasty, and extensive enough to keep you full. If you do choose to eat out, the JW Steakhouse just up the corridor is well worth a visit, offering huge and tasty portions, including very large steaks for around £20 GBP a main.

Reviews

As part of our guide to the best hotel club and executive lounges in London, I am writing a review of the renovated, (in late 2014), and extended executive lounge at the Grosvenor House, a JW Marriott hotel, on Park Lane, right in the center of London. The entrance to the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel's lounge is on the ground floor, reached by following some stairs adjacent to the hotel's reception area. Climb the marble staircase and enter through a keyed glass door to reach this spacious lounge.

Conclusion

This excellent executive lounge is why I added the JW Grosvenor House to my list of preferred London hotels. Spending a prolonged period in this suite was like relaxing at home, and combined with the excellent club lounge at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House, made for a lovely stay in London. The downside of this hotel is that it feels like traditional JW Marriott rather than contemporary London. I’d have liked to have seen more of the soul of London in the decor of the hotel.
