This stunning ranch-style boutique hotel in the south of Italy is an absolute gem. I say ranch style because you are greeted by a driveway bordered by cacti and olive trees while donkeys and horses graze in the bordering field. Masseria Prosperi is so much more than a ranch. Originally a historic farm building, this hotel has been lovingly restored to create a chic and stylish retreat.
Location
Masseria Prosperi is just 10 minutes from Otranto; 40 minutes from Lecce and the station; 80 km from Brindisi airport (1 hour), and 180 km from Bari airport (2 hours). It can be worth renting a car to explore the entire area fully, or the hotel supplies complimentary bikes for more local expeditions.
Masseria Prosperi was built in the shelter of a strikingly rich coastline. The soil is rich, the vegetation verdant, and the hotel enjoys a view down to the Balkans and across the breathtaking sea. Whatever the season, these beaches are unforgettable. Walk, ride, bike race between the pine trees, or try getting blown away by a kite surf.
Style & Character
The hotel owners have done a brilliant job mixing a slick whitewashed finish with historic pieces of old sink and restored wooden furniture. Walls are painted in shades of whites and creams. Outside, even the lawns have a stylish whitewashed wall border making this hotel a delight to the eyes and completely unlike any farm I have seen in England!
Rooms
So to the details, the rooms are poetic. Each pays its respect to the local, rural past. Each one housing authentic and reinvented furnishings. White walls and sheets make these unique and restored pieces stand out. They look special with the backdrop of this very clean and modern setting.
Service & Facilities
An uber-modern lap pool sits outside, edged by slatted loungers. Inside, a similarly stylish saline pool is available. This pool, which comes complete with Jacuzzi, hydro bikes, steam room, and massage room, is separated from the main hall by a glass wall. The main hall is somewhat like a family room used for banquets with a dining room and kitchen. This means you can dive in and swim on the pool side, and on the lounge side, you can dive into white bean bags alongside a roaring fire while looking out at the pool.
Masseria Prosperi is also home to donkeys, horses, goats, and geese, and you can horse-ride to the lakes or at the beach (during the winter). Friendly dogs and cats, also owned by the farm, further enhance this rural experience – no farm is complete without a loving dog welcoming you indoors and a cat wanting to purr on your lap.
Conclusion
This is a boutique hotel created with love. It is just the kind of place we like to reccomend. Unique, bespoke, special – you won’t find anything like it.
