As someone who grew up in Boston and regularly returns to visit family and friends, I am quite familiar with the consistently pricey hotels when looking to stay in the city’s best areas. I can happily confess what I believe I might have discovered just the right hotel that doesn’t hit the wallet too hard has a stellar location as well as very amiable service.
Location
The Hyatt Regency Boston is just a block walk to the T station, the local subway service, making it a breeze to get around the city. Even better, many city sights are within walking distance because of the location. You have the Boston Common and Public Gardens just a stroll away, Beacon Hill and Newbury Street a stone’s throw. The historic waterfront and North End can be reached on foot in about 15 minutes. I wasn’t familiar with the Hyatt Regency Boston but am so happy that I had the chance to stay and foresee more stays there in the future. Whether traveling for business or pleasure, this hotel will meet almost any guest’s needs.
Rooms
Request a Boston Common view room on one of the upper floors. My room had a beautiful view of the Common and State House, one of the famed views of the city. I was also pleasantly surprised by the plethora of pillows. I typically have to request additional pillows in most hotels, but there were more than enough, which was wonderful. A desk and additional chair made for a comfortable workspace, but the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the park was the highlight. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, to the point that I regrettably overslept, but a sign of a good room. With 502 rooms, the hotel could host quite a few guests, and although it was rather crowded during my stay, I never wanted anything from the staff. They took care of everything seamlessly. Room standards such as hairdryer, robe, bath amenities, iHome, coffeemaker, safe, and television were all up to par and made for a comfortable one-night stay.
Service & Facilities
If traveling with family, I could see the indoor pool offering a nice place for the kids to enjoy letting loose some energy. Located adjacent to the hotel gym, the saltwater pool is a standard indoor pool with lane markings for those who’d like to use it for a little exercise. There is also an outdoor patio off the pool for guests who want to sunbathe outside.
Food & Drink
Avenue One Restaurant and Lounge offers flavors from award-winning Executive Chef Kelly Armetta. Chef Armetta prides himself on using only the finest local ingredients, serving a farm-to-table (or common in Boston, sea-to-table) fare. The best dishes on the menu are, without a doubt, and without surprise, the seafood offerings. The breakfast is as enjoyable as the lunch, and dinner menus, with a buffet, served from 6:30 – 10:00 am, making it very convenient for early risers and business travelers alike.
On tap at the Avenue One Bar, you’ll find a bountiful collection of beers. Enjoy Boston’s favorite, Samuel Adams, while conversing with the friendly bar staff (many guests not from the area particularly seem to enjoy the strong Boston accents). If you’re a sports fan, you’ll find more than enough conversation about any of the local champion teams. Cocktails can be enjoyed seated at the bar or on one of the many comfortable lounge tables.
Conclusion
I will gladly stay at this hotel on future business and personal trips to Boston. I don’t know that the location’s price, comfort, and amenities can be beaten. The only downside was the lack of affordable parking. Since the hotel is nestled among Boston’s windy old streets, parking is at a premium. As a guest of the hotel, I would have hoped there would have been some discount offered. Other than that, I didn’t have a single complaint. The staff seemed willing to bend over backward at any request. A few business meetings were being hosted during my stay, and all attendees seemed to be looked after and content with the hotel’s offerings and organization. I called my husband upon arrival at the hotel to let him know that I believed I had found a great option for our future Boston visits and look forward to another stay at the Hyatt Regency Boston.
