The Pier First Class Lounge is Cathay Pacific’s new flagship lounge in Hong Kong International Airport, which opened in the middle of 2015. I planned my flights to coincide with the opening and managed to experience the lounge on its opening day.

Since then, I have gone back a few times, and I have also visited The Wing Business Lounge at Hong Kong Airport. The Pier First Class can be accessed by passengers flying First class with Cathay Pacific, Marco Polo Club Diamond members, as well as oneworld Emerald members flying on oneworld operated carriers.

The Pier is located near Gate 63. A small entrance signboard is next to the escalator, which goes down one floor. Alternatively, guests can also take the elevator slightly ahead of the escalator. Upon descending, there is a short and slightly dark walkway. There is a concierge desk on the right. This short walkway leads to the main walkway, where there is a nice wood table with a fancy light installation.

The lounge design utilizes a lot of dark wood and light green marble to give it a classy and polished look. The lighting is warm, and there is a lot of natural light. The lounge also smells nice – with the signature Cathay Pacific scent present throughout.

On the left of the main walkway is The Bar, an inviting space with a large semi-circle bar. There are plenty of sitting spaces here facing a few gates. This is a brightly lit place to watch planes while sipping on the large drinks offering, including three types of champagne! If you feel like grabbing pastries or a light snack, there is also The Pantry, a small room with a good selection of fruits, desserts, finger food, and drinks.

Heading to the right of the main walkway, you will pass by The Bureau, the lounge’s business center. The bathroom, spa, and day suites are also along this walkway. The Dining Room is at the end of the walkway, a large dining space where they serve a la carte food. There is also a small bar here serving drinks. The a la carte menu offers many starters, main dishes, and sweet options. You can order as much as you fancy. The food quality is high, and each dish is nicely presented.

There is a spa in the lounge that Gentleman’s Tonic runs. They offer a complimentary massage to passengers. Be sure to book them as soon as you enter the lounge, as spots are popular. The massages are very good, and a good way to relax in this busy airport.

There are 14 shower stalls in the lounge. The showers, as well as the bathrooms, use products by Aesop. If you feel tired, you can also rest in one of their eight Day Suites. The entrance to these suites is located next to the spa. Each suite has a day bed, a reading light, and a great view overlooking a few gates and the runway (see the view in the picture above). You can also draw the curtains to get more privacy. My only qualm here is that it might be a bit too bright to sleep.

With The Pier, Cathay Pacific has elevated their flagship lounge experience. This lounge is hands down my favorite lounge in Hong Kong and one of the best First Class lounges in the world.
