The Fairmont Monte Carlo is located in a 1970’s block built on the edge of the main peninsula of Monte Carlo, just behind (or in front of depending on your perspective) Casino Square. It is incredibly convenient for exploring Monaco.
Location
The Fairmont Monte Carlo is located perfectly, slap bang in the center of Monte Carlo, right next to the Casino. The sea-view rooms & suites are literally built out into the bay so your balcony is sitting on top of the water. Watch the numerous fireworks displays in the summer, fabulous sunsets, and all the helicopters and boats that race in and out of the marina. When a cruise ship arrives, it comes in so close it can feel like it is going to hit the hotel!
Style & Character
The Fairmont Monte Carlo is huge, making it a popular conference hotel, so it lacks a boutique feel or a personal touch that you will find at hotels like Hotel Hermitage Monte-Carlo. However, it has a special place in my heart being the first hotel that I took my baby boy to outside of the UK.
Its atmosphere, which is less formal than the other hotels in Monte Carlo, was an advantage at this time as I felt comfortable and at home pushing the pushchair around. Feel free to wander around in designer gear or in Bermuda shorts and sandals with socks. Whatever you feel comfortable in, the staff here will welcome you, and you won’t feel out of place.
Unfortunately, the pool area, which used to be quiet, now has a trendy beach club vibe that is not very child friendly, although is great if you are an adult and want to swim with funky music.
Rooms
All rooms are very similar in design and decor, but the views aren’t. If you are going for a sea view, request a room that is not looking over the multicolored 60’s hexagon. For a garden view, request a high floor. The low-floor garden view rooms can be dingy. I recommend the sea view suites in particular. Views don’t get a lot better!
The bathrooms are a little tired, but the gorgeous Labo Rose 31 amenities smell fabulous. The rooms can be a little noisy as the hotel is located in the middle of the action in Monaco, but we have always been moved without a problem if we have felt it necessary.
Service & Facilities
The rooftop pool at the Fairmont Monte Carlo is a highlight, with a beautiful view wrapping around from the Grand Prix hairpin to the entrance of the harbor. In the summer, the Fairmont holds “Nobu by night” by the pool, where you can enjoy Nobu food in a funky outdoor venue. While this is fun, the pool gets very busy with adults having a drink, so is not very child friendly.
Their magical 7th floor is the “Horizon Deck” Restaurant, and Champagne Bar offers the same wraparound views, which are particularly stunning on the Mediterranean night. In the winter, Nobu remains open downstairs but not poolside. Equally, the “Horizon Deck” closes in the Winter but the Sapphire bar is open 24/7 all year round.
Food & Drink
Breakfast in the summer is sometimes served in the “Horizon Deck” restaurant on top of the hotel where views and ambiance are one in a million. We saw a helicopter land on the deck of a Super Yacht, right in front of us! There is also a huge spread and an egg man who will do you eggs to order. In the winter, breakfast is served downstairs in Nobu with an equally excellent spread.
Conclusion
This hotel has the most lively pool in Monaco is music pumping and drinks flowing. The location can’t be beaten and the views are amazing.
