1. Best Luxury Hotel: InterContinental Lisbon
InterContinental Lisbon is located in the city’s business district and in front of the gorgeous Eduardo VII park. The hotel is a short walk to the landmark Marquês de Pombal roundabout, with a metro station and many buses which will take you to any part of the city.
From the outside, InterContinental Lisbon is built to look like a cascading glass block. As the hotel is located near the top of one of Lisbon’s seven hills, this unique building’s outline can be seen easily from multiple lookout points of the city.
Inside, an expansive, bright lobby is lit by two interesting chandeliers. The main lobby area has plenty of lounge seats, and to one end, you will find the entrance to the InterContinental Club lounge, which we have also reviewed. On the right side of the entrance is the long golden check-in counter with a blue backdrop. The colors are striking! In terms of facilities, the hotel has a small gym with modern equipment and weights in the basement but no pool.
Classic River View rooms are the most common room types out of the 331 rooms and measure 34 m² with a large king bed in the middle. A lounging chair is in the corner and a work desk is near the window. The TV is housed in a large wooden box frame in front of the bed, with the mini fridge and tea and coffee sachets in the drawers below. The views are excellent as a result of the hotel’s location up the hill.
In terms of dining, the Akla Restaurant offers a truly special Mediterranean gastronomic experience in a modern, elegant atmosphere, while Uptown cocktail bar offers comfortable lounging chairs and a funky-colored long bar with pink neon lights.
