We love a private plunge pool. It’s a trend among newly built ultra-luxury resorts to impress guests with hotel rooms that feature private plunge pools. Is there anything more decadent than watching the sunset over cocktails on your private pool terrace?
Whether you are heading to Venice, the Caribbean, the Maldives, Sardinia, or Thailand, here is our pick of 10 of the world’s best resorts with private pools. Take your pick, and then take a dip!
1. JW Marriott Venice
Venice is one of my favorite destinations. The Bond-style water taxis, the historical passageways, and the views over busy waterways, There is nowhere quite like it. On our last trip to Venice, we fell in love with the terribly romantic Aman Canal Grande Venice, swam in the beautiful pool at the Belmond Cipriani, but if you are looking for your own private pool in Venice, the place to stay is the JW Marriott Venice in their “La Residenza Pool De Luxe room” pictured above, which comes with its own private pool.
The room’s double doors open out onto the star attraction – your own private pool, which sports a decked area with loungers, tables, and chairs and a mini lawn where you can sit and enjoy your very own private view onto Venice. The pool itself was large enough for a lovely splash, complete with spa bubbles, and the views beyond the pool are over the Venice lagoon.
2. Suites At the Hotel Pitrizza, Sardinia
Situated on the Italian island of Sardinia and surrounded by the white beaches of the Costa Smeralda, we love the Baki Unique Suite at Hotel Pitrizza (pictured above). Surrounded by olive trees, cane apples, and picturesque rocks sculpted by the wind, Baki Suite bewitches guests with a setting that transforms as the day progresses. A large and luxurious living room opens directly onto a terrace with dining, lounge, and your private pool.
3. Amanyara, Turks & Caicos
Set on the beautiful island of Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos Islands, Amanyara is a secluded haven embracing the best elements of the Caribbean. It is no secret that Aman Resorts is one of my favorite luxury hotel brands, and Amanyara is undoubtedly one of the best luxury hotels in the world.
You will find some of the best beaches in the world on the Turks and Caicos Islands, and Amanyara resort is located along the pristine reefs of Northwest Point Marine National Park, acclaimed for some of the world’s best wall and reef diving. Rooms or “Pavilions” are either inland bordered by tranquil ponds with timber sun decks over the water, or they are oceanfront with views out to sea and paths down to the shoreline. Choose your inland pavilions carefully as only some feature private pools. All Pavilions have three-sided glass walls that slide away to leave the room open to cooling breezes and feature a combined bedroom and living room separated from the bathroom area by a decorative wooden screen. You will find freestanding bathtubs in the bathrooms and a rain shower.
The pool is an excellent feature of this luxury hotel. Lined with timber decking, Amanyara’s infinity pool is a 50m pool that sparkles by day and becomes a star-speckled mirror by night. With views of the Atlantic (from February to April, you can spot migrating humpback whales), this pool is surrounded by loungers and is the perfect place to enjoy the sunset.
Beyond this, the Amanyara private beach is a half-mile-long stretch of powdery soft white sands sprinkled with oversized loungers. To the South, you will find rocky inlets and sandy coves.
4. Soneva Jani
Brand new and the sister hotel to Soneva Fushi Resort mentioned below, Soneva Jani is located on the island of Medhufaru in the northern Atoll of Noonu, an hour by speedboat from Soneva Fushi. It offers a vast 4 kilometers of unspoiled beach.
The new resort showcases some of the most modern approaches to eco-tourism. For example, it boasts a silent outdoor cinema, where guests will listen to movies with Bluetooth earphones so as not to disturb the local wildlife. The resort also features 24 spacious villas, each with a private pool, as well as a private island villa for those who seek a truly exclusive retreat, with the master bedrooms boasting retractable roofs made from sustainable materials, so that guests can sleep under the stars without having to leave their beds. Some of the villas even feature a gigantic water slide into the Indian Ocean.
5. Soneva Fushi Resort, Maldives
Soneva Fushi Resort , is located in the stunning Baa Atoll island archipelago, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve (the same area as Milhaidoo below). Villas are hidden among dense tropical foliage and are the stuff of romantic Robinson Crusoe fantasies, with many being built to resemble tree houses. All are open to their private stretch of sugar-white sands, and most boast their own private seawater swimming pools. Service is provided by Mr./Ms. Friday butlers.
Activities include a Six Senses spa, a private beach with water sports facilities, bikes to borrow, an observatory, open-air cinema, a floodlit tennis court, badminton, snooker table, group yoga, and tai chi classes, jogging trail, board games, ice-cream parlor, library, a stash of CDs and DVDs, free Wi-Fi.
6. Amanpuri
Amanpuri is tucked away in Surin Beach, 30 minutes from Phuket Airport in Thailand. The Amanpuri beach can only be reached via the hotel or by boat, keeping it almost completely private. This hotel is beachside rather than cliffside, so there are no infinity views from the black-tiled swimming pool. Instead, the pool looks through swaying palms and out over the Andaman Sea. A stone staircase leads to Pansea Beach, a rustic-chic restaurant, more swimming pools, a watersports center, and tennis courts. An excellent spa is tucked away on the other side of the resort, overlooking Bang Tao Beach.
Amanpuri’s rooms are what is unique here. The Garden Pool Pavilion plunge pools have to be the most secluded and private hotel swimming pools in Thailand. Don your bikini (or not) and splash in utter isolation. It is also worth noting that pavilions 103 and 105 have the most striking sea views.
7. Four Seasons Private Island Maldives At Voavah, Maldives
Four Seasons has just opened its first exclusive-use hideaway in the stunning Maldives, the Four Seasons Private Island Maldives At Voavah, Baa Atoll.
Much like Richard Branson’s Necker Island, this Four Seasons Luxury Private Island is rented out as a whole or “entirely yours.” With seven bedrooms, a Beach House, a dive school, and a private spa extends the oceanic spoils of the Maldives’ only UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, you and 21 other guests can enjoy days in the double-story Beach House and adjacent white sands.
Dive with whale sharks, snorkel with manta rays, swim with neighborhood turtles, fish for your dinner, visit local islands, and cruise into breathtaking Baa Atoll sunsets.
8. Milaidhoo Island Maldives
The brand new Milaidhoo Island Maldives, opened in November 2016, is also located in the stunning Baa Atoll island archipelago, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. You can choose between 30 over-water villas and 20 additional villas among the tropical greenery along the beach. Each villa comes complete with a private freshwater swimming pool and your own personal concierge.
Idyllic beaches, world-famous diving and snorkeling, fishing trips, and cultural excursions are just some of the memory-making activities Milaidhoo will offer. This is a place to take it easy and take a dip with your dolphin, whale shark and manta ray neighbors within this protected marine area. Pack your bags. Paradise has been found.
9. Hurawalhi Island Resort & Spa
Hurawalhi Island Resort & Spa, is located in the pristine Lhaviyani Atoll. This hotel is brand new and opened in November 2016. With 90 new stylish Ocean and Beach Villas, this adults-only hotel offers unique additional services such as the professional photo concierge who will capture life-long memories.
Activity seekers can take advantage of the wide range of water sports, multipurpose athletic courts, and fitness center available. The overwater Duniye Spa will provide a tropical spa experience focused on wholeness, simplicity, purity, and quality for those seeking some pampering. Amongst its restaurants, the scene-stealer will be the underwater restaurant, ‘5.8’. Located 5.8 meters (18 feet) beneath the sea and surrounded by a tranquil lagoon, the spell-binding Aquarium restaurant will send senses soaring with modern cuisine in an unparalleled setting.
10. Rosewood Mayakoba, Mexico
Surrounded by emerald jungle, Rosewood Mayakoba is a Riviera Maya resort that defines a private world of rare luxury and refined beauty. Inspired by Mayan traditions, this 1600-acre resort enclave sits along a mile‐long arc of white Caribbean sand, nestled just north of the picturesque waterfront town of Playa del Carmen.
