The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort is one of the most luxurious resorts in the Maldives. It is hidden on Vommuli Private Island and is only reachable by seaplane. Combining contemporary design, bespoke craftsmanship, and eco-friendly credentials, this resort offers luxury and escapism as well as a great way to collect and redeem Marriott Bonvoy points.
Location
Vommuli Island is a 45-minute seaplane ride from Malé International Airport. As you swoop down from the sky, The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort appears as a dot of white sand with swaying palms appearing to meander across its belly. This private island getaway is remote even for the Maldives and sits between two house reefs in the Dhaalu Atoll.
Style & Character
The architecture here is daring, and the clientele here are quietly sophisticated. The style is a blend of modern luxury and tropical island ambiance. But it’s the setting you come here for. The empty white sand beaches, the crystal-clear water, and the amazing service from teams of people working together to make your stay perfect.
Rooms
Each of the secluded villas has its own butler for personal pampering and a private swimming pool. There are 11 accommodation types across 77 villas, 44 of which are over the water. The largest is the three-bedroom over-water John Jacob Astor Estate, with staff quarters and a 92 m² infinity pool.
Entry-level Beach Villas are designed to mimic traditional Maldivian boathouses, with attic-style cathedral-like ceilings that were originally designed to fit the sails of fishing boats. Outside, the private deck offers neverending sea views and vistas of stars at night. The plunge pool measures 161 ft², which feels fairly perfect in size.
Overwater villas tend to have less privacy than the beach villas. The direct ocean access is a real advantage in these rooms, although the water is too shallow to jump into. Instead, you have to climb down the ladder for a dip. Sunset-facing villas are worth paying a premium for if you want to enjoy the sunset in privacy.
Service & Facilities
Service here is incredible. The transfer crew presents a video message from your personal butler at the main airport arrival terminal. Throughout your stay, your butler will make reservations, set up in-room dining, and golf cart you around the island.
The on-site dive center, where marine biologists catalog the rich biodiversity (dolphins and mantas have been spotted), offers numerous sites to explore. The house reef is teeming with fish, including the oriental sweetlips and huge Napoleon wrasse.
Vommuli House has a fitness studio and a small gym that offers circuit training classes. There’s also aqua aerobics in the resort’s massive pool and cooking classes. For families, St. Regis provides children’s bathrobes and a selection of toys, and there’s also a kids’ club and playroom at Vommuli House. Families will probably enjoy the main pool, which remains fairly empty since everyone has their own plunge pools and the sea.
Get a lava shell massage in the over-water Iridium Spa, or try the ‘his and hers’ saunas and steam rooms. Antigravity yoga is available on the spa deck, and snorkeling, kayaking, and stand-up paddle boarding are free. Or pay to charter the Azimut yacht, a four-cabin Azimut Flybridge 66, for a sunset cruise.
For an alternative pummeling experience, book the Blue Hole, an overwater whirlpool with hugely powerful jets that pummel your body in a refreshing hydrotherapy experience.
Food & Drink
The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort offers a wide range of exquisite dining venues. Modern Japanese Kaiseki-style cuisine awaits you at T•Pan, the resort’s newest culinary hideaway at the edge of the white sandy beach. Signature restaurant, ALBA, is a glass-sided Mediterranean-inspired eatery serving modern interpretations of Italian classics crafted with delicious locally sourced ingredients in an alfresco setting. Crust & Craft is a family-friendly pizzeria where you can design your own pizza with traditional Italian and other delicious toppings or simply grab a sandwich or snack. Slip away to Decanter, the resort’s subterranean hotspot, to enjoy a five-course wine pairing dinner experience with selections from the head sommelier, or relax with a sunset cocktail at The Whale Bar before wandering inland to dine at Cargo with sumptuous Middle Eastern cuisine served under the swaying palms. Finally, Orientale redefines Eastern haute cuisine, boasting a sushi bar and a selection of seasonal pan-Asian dishes, here you can enjoy fine dining and unobstructed views of the Indian Ocean with gentle ocean breezes that envelop you.
If you’re looking for something a little more intimate in a breath-taking private setting, or if you want to add an extra touch of luxury to your dining experience, then simply ask your St. Regis butler to create your very own dining arrangements under the stars, on the water or even on your very own private sandbank. These unique experiences are sure to create the most magical memories that will last a lifetime.
Conclusion
This resort has a very peaceful vibe. Food and drink can be expensive (as with all the great resorts in the Maldives), so make sure you book with one of our agents so you have breakfast included along with extra resort credit. Breakfast is extravagant and is $80+ per person served at Alba Restaurant if you dont book via our luxury travel concierge.
A highlight and the most sociable occasion guests experience at this resort is the nightly sunset drinks at Whale Bar. The building looks like, you’ve guessed it, a whale! It is located right on the shore. The atmosphere and jollity should not be missed.
