Delta always seems to be expanding its popular pre-select meal program, allowing even more customers to choose their meal days before their flight. Delta One and domestic First Class customers should now have the ability to pre-order meals.
Are Delta Meals The Best In The Sky?
Sadly no, Singapore Airlines offers premium passengers some of the best meals in the sky (pictured above) and offers the option to browse the menu beforehand and select meals before getting on the plane. Check out our latest review of Singapore Airlines in First Class.
This pre-order facility is a major plus for flyers on Delta, and the program has earned rave reviews in select markets. And enables Delta One customers can now enjoy pre-select on the following routes:
- All outbound routes from the U.S. to Europe
- Flights departing from AMS, CDG, and LHR inbound to the U.S (beginning Sept. 26)
- Select routes between the U.S. and Asia/Australia
- Long-haul domestic routes where Delta One is offered
- Additionally, Delta One customers flying these routes who aren’t enrolled in SkyMiles are now eligible to participate in the program — all that’s needed is a valid email address listed in their flight booking
How To Select Your Delta One Pre-Select Meal
Customers in eligible markets will receive an email from Delta three days prior to their flight, asking them to select their first choice meal from Delta’s latest seasonal, regionally-influenced menu.
Depending on the destination, menus will feature creations by Delta’s in-house culinary team or the airline’s partner chefs — like James Beard honoree Linton Hopkins out of Atlanta, select chefs from Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group out of New York, chef duo Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo out of L.A, and most recently, Chinese chef Jereme Leung, Japanese chef Norio Ueno and Korean chef Woo-Joong Kwon.
Meals are complemented by a selection of wines curated by Master Sommelier Andrea Robinson. Andrea’s fall wine menu includes selections like Monte Real Reserva Tempranillo 2012 and Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc-Viognier 2016.
Current domestic Delta One routes include JFK to/from LAS, LAX, SFO, SAN, and SEA; DCA to/from LAX; BOS to/from SFO and LAX; ATL to/from HNL; MSP to/from HNL.
This expansion is part of Delta’s multi-billion dollar investment in the overall customer experience. In the past several years, the airline has made significant enhancements to the Main Cabin experience, including free Main Cabin meals on select coast-to-coast routes, free mobile messaging, free in-flight entertainment, upgraded Main Cabin snacks, the addition of sparkling wine, access to Wi-Fi on nearly all flights, enhanced blankets and refreshed Flight Fuel food-for-purchase options. Recent upgrades to the Delta One in-flight experience include:
New chef-designed Delta One menus curated by Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo for flights from LAX.
Refreshed TUMI amenity kits with Kiehl’s products.
An Alessi-designed collection of service ware.
What If I Am Flying In Economy?
Delta has been busy refreshing the economy meal service, starting with menu cards in coach that include an overview of the flow of flight, detailing menu items from takeoff to touchdown. Delta has also rolled out new entree items, cutlery, and service items such as plates and bowls.
