The city of Stockholm beckoned us this summer to explore and make the most of their extra-long days; Hotel At Six was an obvious choice for us with its impressive reputation as the design hotel of the moment in the Swedish capital.
Location
The location of Hotel At Six couldn’t be better, and is another reason we were so keen to stay at the hotel. You are centrally located in the Norrmalm area of Stockholm. The hotel stands proud on the iconic Brunkebergstorg Square overlooking the fountain and is surrounded by bars, restaurants, and a funky shopping center. Their spot on the square is amazing, especially at night when, somehow, despite such a central location, the square is beautifully lit and feels surprisingly serene.
The hotel is a mere 5-minute stroll to the nearest tram stop, and Stockholm Central Station is a 10-minute walk. Head in the opposite direction, and you’ll reach the beautiful island of Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s old town. Wander through its picturesque cobbled lanes, and in another 10 minutes, you can cross to the uber-trendy island of Sodermalm. It’s such a great location we managed to explore mainly on foot, although this is Stockholm, and taking a boat is an absolute must!
Style & Character
Hotel At Six offers a captivating celebration of contemporary art, style, and design. This urban oasis seamlessly combines sleek modernity with unrivaled comfort. As you step inside, you are greeted by a dramatic staircase adorned with an oversized marble figurehead. This sets the tone, serving as your initial introduction to the hotel’s impressive art collection. The hotel’s monochrome interiors create an ambiance of sophistication and refinement at every turn. Every corner exudes a sense of modern luxury, with blackened steel, dark timber, and polished granite gracing the spaces. The carefully curated palette not only adds to the chic ambiance but also highlights the hotel’s commitment to contemporary design. Housed in a former Brutalist-style high-rise bank, Hotel At Six beautifully blends the charm of its historic architecture and city surroundings with the allure of its contemporary design. The result is a harmonious fusion of the old and the new.
Rooms
There are 343 exclusive guest rooms and suites at Hotel At Six. The rooms all reflect that same chic, contemporary mood that the rest of the hotel enjoys.
The facilities are excellent with sitting areas, robes, slippers, and tea and coffeemakers; I loved the extra-funky touches – the minibar includes a cocktail mixer and menu so you can make your own pre-dinner cocktail, and the tech is impressive, you can hook up to the sound system with relative ease. I’d definitely suggest opting for a room with a city view and a balcony. Ours was on the 14th floor, and the views were breathtaking, taking in the city below. We could even see right across the water and to the other islands of the city!
We were staying in a spacious Junior Suite, which included a large living area that opened to the balcony with seating, creating a fabulous space and really making the most of that view. Ideal for traveling families, our suite also connected to a twin room ideal for children and perfect to ensure everyone has their own space.
If the budget can stretch, and you’re really looking for space, their 115 m² Masterpiece Suite boasts a kitchenette, dining area, and even a private rooftop terrace; I imagine the views to be particularly epic!
Service & Facilities
As well as a selection of bars and restaurants, there is a 24-hour gym with a cross-fit-inspired setup, 24/7 room service, complimentary Wi-Fi, and there’s a top-notch conference center for your next event.
The service was impressive. Hotels in any city can be impersonal and err on the super-efficient but have no time for guests. That is so not the case here. The service was warm, both on check-in and check-out, but also whenever we passed the desk on the way in or out of the hotel too. They seemed genuinely pleased to welcome you to the hotel and went above and beyond, giving our children maps of the city and ensuring we had full information about the room and its many gadgets.
Food & Drink
Hotel At Six boasts an array of dining options under one roof, featuring one restaurant, one bistro, two bars, and a rooftop bar that they affectionately refer to as the “park”.
Begin your culinary adventure at the award-winning gallery restaurant, The Dining Room, where sophistication meets sustainability. The international restaurant places a strong emphasis on seasonal Swedish ingredients. The Dining Room is also the location for breakfast, where an extensive buffet spills across multiple stations with all the usual suspects and some Scandi options, too; somehow, everything was fresh, perfectly warm, and totally delicious. We left fully energized and ready to conquer the city!
For wine aficionados and those in need of a quick breakfast, Blanche & Hierta beckons with a vast wine list, rustic food menu, and a daytime persona as a trendy café and deli. Take a seat on the bustling outdoor terrace, perfect for some people-watching Stockholm-style, while savoring selections from that remarkable wine list.
The Cocktail Bar is famed for its signature punch bowl, a must-try for any visitor. They also offer a menu of delectable light bites perfectly designed to complement their classic and signature cocktails menu.
Lastly, don’t miss a visit to the rooftop oasis, Stockholm Under Stjärnorna. This vibrant and beautiful space hosts international guest DJs, movie nights, and even more must-try cocktails. It’s the ultimate destination for those seeking the pulse of Stockholm’s nightlife.
Conclusion
Whether you’re drawn to the stunning art collection, the tastefully designed interiors, the excellent location, or the diverse collection of eateries, Hotel At Six is more than just a place to stay; it’s a destination where art, style, and fine cuisine seamlessly converge to create an unforgettable escape. Come and experience the essence of contemporary urban luxury in the heart of Stockholm at Hotel At Six.
