Andaz Hotels are a brand within the Hyatt group. These hotels have a modern boutique design. Within the global Hyatt portfolio, there are more than 500 hotels and resorts across several distinctive brands. We have outlined the best Park Hyatt hotels, the best Grand Hyatt hotels, the best Hyatt Regency hotels and the best Hyatt Centric hotels.
Hyatt hotel brands also include Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Hyatt Zilara & Ziva, Hyatt Residence Club, Hyatt Centric, and the Unbound Collection by Hyatt. Park Hyatt and Andaz are considered the group’s most luxurious brands. Park Hyatt hotels showcase a minimalist interior design that I love.
Andaz Hotels design their guestrooms to feel alittle like flats, with imaginative interiors, artwork, and amenities. The complimentary mini-bar is a highlight and invites guests to taste local treats and non-alcoholic beverages.
Andaz hotels include: Andaz 5th Avenue in New York, Andaz San Diego, Andaz West Hollywood, Andaz Napa, Andaz Scottsdale Resort and Spa, Andaz Savannah, Andaz Maui at Wailea, Andaz Ottawa Byward Market, Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya, Andaz Peninsula Papagayo in Costa Rica, Andaz London Liverpool Street, Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht, Andaz Delhi, Andaz Xintiandi in Shanghai, Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor, Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere and Andaz Tokyo Toranomon Hills.
1. Andaz Costa Rica Resort at Peninsula Papagayo
Andaz Costa Rica Resort competes directly with the Four Seasons. The location for both hotels is the same. Both are located in the beautiful gated community of Peninsula Papagayo, but the Andaz offers better value.
The Andaz Costa Rica Resort at Peninsula Papagayo is proudly Costa Rican but with a more playful, trendy vibe. You get your first taste of the charm that is the Andaz Resort Costa Rica when you pull up outside the main reception. Your attention is torn between your first glimpse of the ocean and the fabulous bright purple VW Camper Van that proudly welcomes you. The ocean wins, but not before you smile at the pure fun of this place.
Heading towards the check-in space, tree-lined infinity pools flank your path, and you reach an epic curved roof-topped open lobby with panoramic ocean views. The resort was designed by iconic Costa Rican architect Ronald Zürcher, who is currently designing a collection of luxury residences for the resort as well as a tremendous renovation of one of the restaurants.
Guest rooms are equally gorgeous, with natural colors and materials used throughout. The uplifting burst of color continues with some fabulous wooden lizards on the wall that don’t let you forget that you are in beautiful Costa Rica.
The main pools at the Andaz are freeform with a breathtaking infinity view of the ocean and are overhanging with tropical plants, meaning you feel very much in the rainforest. There are two beaches near the resort itself. To reach them, you head down a wooden walkway and arrive on the beaches of Culebra Bay.
The real treat, however, awaits a short boat ride away. Hop on board, and you are taken 10 minutes across the ocean to the Andaz Beach Club set upon Playa Nacascolo. This delightful space is the home of all those water sports. Many loungers and day beds re set under the trees as shown in our photo above, and there’s a kid’s playpark along with a huge selection of sand toys, making this beach brilliant for families.
2. Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort – A Concept by Hyatt
Four Seasons Maui and Andaz Wailea are arguably the best luxury resorts on Maui, so you won’t go wrong with whichever one you decide to pick, particularly because Wailea, where both resorts are situated, is the driest part of the island.
Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort is the best Hyatt in Maui and has four infinity pools, two restaurants, a full-service spa, and is beachfront on Waikapu Beach. The Andaz offers wonderful rooms and spacious villas with a private plunge pool or hot tub and sweeping Pacific Ocean views. Some of these are oceanfront and sit right by the beach. Families or groups will love these villas.
At the Andaz, the pools are layered on terraces down to the sea. There are three ocean-facing, cascading infinity pools, a lagoon pool, and an adult tranquility pool for guests 18 and over.
In fact, we think this resort is so good that we have placed it in the lofty position as the best Hyatt in Hawaii.
3. Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya
Enjoy the white-sand beach and lush greenery in Andaz Mayakoba’s exclusive gated community. We have compared Andaz Mayakoba Vs. Rosewood Vs. Banyan Tree Vs. Fairmont. All four are fabulous resorts and make up the best hotels in Mayakoba.
Unlike the other three resorts, the Andaz does not have a swathe of resort grounds that meander down to the beach. Instead, the Andaz is situated behind the Rosewood and further away from the beach. The Andaz does, however, have a glorious beachfront and two beautifully landscaped outdoor pools, including a beachfront pool.
Andaz Mayakoba has 214 guestrooms, including 41 luxury suites, so it is intermediate in size for Mayakoba. Each room has views of the Caribbean Sea, the lagoon, or the golf course. Spread out in large suites with open layouts and connecting rooms, pamper yourself with private plunge pools and terraces with immersive natural views. Guestrooms are inspired by nature and light, warm colors reflective of the Caribbean.
Andaz has a the most “hip” reputation of the Layakoba hotels and tends to attract younger clientele, but there is a kids club if you stay with your family along with an authentic Mayan spa experience at Naum Wellness & Spa, a 24-hour, state-of-the-art gym and Latin American dining at Casa Amate.
4. Andaz Bali
Bali in Indonesia is one of the most developed tropical destinations in Asia. This busy and touristy island has some beautiful luxury hotels, and one of the best is the Andaz Bali.
Andaz Bali, which opened in 2021, is set on the edge of the Sanur beach on Bali’s east coast and is constructed out of local materials, including red brick and teak, making it feel authentically Bali.
The resort spans out from the village square in the center of the resort and is pretty, with plenty of lovely greenery. This compares favorably to the Hyatt Regency block next door, which is housed in a 1970s grey concrete building.
Being right next door to the beachfront Hyatt Regency Bali is a major advantage, as the two sister resorts share amenities. You can charge restaurant meals at the Hyatt Regency Bali to your Andaz Bali room. There are also plenty of local restaurants and bars nearby.
Rooms here are stylish, with charcoal-colored bathrooms with large and gorgeous circular backlit mirrors. Stand-alone dark brown stone sinks and a large stand-alone bath finish off this breathtaking bathroom.
Highlights of the Andaz Bali are the lush tropical grounds, the infinity beachfront pool, the freeform pool that plays host to islands filled with luminous green plants, as well as guests and the shallow kid’s pool. We love the live music at breakfast and the stylish, spacious rooms with balconies.
This hotel is right on the beach, but the beach is not private, and there is a public boardwalk that runs the entire stretch of Sanur Beach that anyone can stroll along.
5. Andaz Dubai The Palm
Andaz Dubai The Palm is a modern beachfront hotel on Dubai’s famous Palm peninsula. The interiors are colorful and modern, with modern rooms containing colorful furniture, a rooftop terrace, and a beachfront pool some walk away, which is shared by the residents of surrounding apartments. This pool and beachfront area tends to be busy and uninteresting.
There’s also an adults-only 14th Floor Cabana Pool in the hotel, which is really nice in an urban pool with a pool bar side shaded by the hotel tower in the afternoons. There are limited loungers here, and the views across the city from here are impressive.
This Andaz is a great Andaz with a beach but as the beach isn’t on the hotel’s doostep this Andaz comes at the bottom of our list.
