The style of Mauna Lani Resort is a harmonious blend of contemporary luxury and authentic Hawaiian charm, reflecting the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the Big Island. The historic pond set in the grounds of Mauna Lani Resort is a captivating feature that holds cultural and ecological significance. Known as Kalahuipua’a Fishpond, it is one of the largest ancient fishponds in Hawaii and is believed to have been built over 1,000 years ago by native Hawaiians.
The pond spans over 15 acres and is surrounded by lush vegetation, including coconut palms and kiawe trees. Its construction demonstrates the ingenuity of ancient Hawaiian engineering, with lava rock walls forming a barrier to trap fish during high tide, providing a sustainable food source for the local community. Today, the pond serves as a serene backdrop for leisurely walks and cultural activities, offering visitors a glimpse into Hawaii’s rich history and heritage.

Conclusion
Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection, has a fabulous beach and a unique connection to Hawaiian culture via its fishponds. This is a brilliant resort for enjoying sunsets and beach activities. The pool here is smart and large but lacks the slides and tropical features of some of the other hotels in Hawaii, like Grand Wailea or Wailea Beach Hotel, which probably offer the best hotel pools in Hawaii for families with kids.
We can’t think of a better place to sit out on comfy rattan sofas with a cocktail and gaze across pristine lawns punctuated by palm trees as the sun goes down over the beach beyond.
