When comparing Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort Vs. Waikiki Beach Marriott it is immediately worth mentioning that neither hotel actually on the beach. Both are across the road from the beach and while some of the rooms have ocean views, you cannot avoid walking and crossing the road to get to the beach from either hotel.
Neither hotel is our number one choice in Waikiki. If you can stretch to it we love the Halekulani and Royal Hawaiian in Waikiki and the Four Seasons Oahu beyond Waikiki.
Book your stay at either hotel via our luxury travel concierge for extra benefits and perks, including free breakfast, resort credit, and a prioritized room upgrade.
1. Location
The Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa is located across the road from the beach.
Unfortunately, this location is set back from the beach, so you have to cross the road to get to the beach. Even though there are other hotels and malls around the Hyatt Regency and Waikiki beach, this does not impede its magnificent views as the Hyatt Regency’s towers are so high, they tower above the buildings around it.
The Hyatt Regency Waikiki is very central to the action, with attractions like the famous Dukes Waikiki restaurant and the International Market Place all within a few minutes walk. All the major beachfront hotels, like the Halekulani and the Royal Hawaiian, and the Sheraton Waikiki is a short walk away.
Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa is 5 minutes walk from the Hyatt Regency Waikiki, just three of four blocks along the sands. It is also set behind the road that borders the beach so you have to cross the road to get to the beach.
The Royal Hawaiian or Pink Palace is a great choice for both beach and action. We also love the waterfront Halekulani. Although this hotel doesn’t have much beach, it is on the waterfront and has a magnificent pool and grounds.
If you want the best hotel on the island of Oahu, it has to be Four Seasons Oahu which is one of the best Four Seasons on Hawaii and is not to be missed. Four Seasons Oahu is not in or even near Waikiki, but it is on a glorious beach in a beautiful setting.
2. Accommodations
The Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa features over 1,200 guest rooms and suites spread across two towers. It features modern and comfortable guest rooms and suites, many with balconies offering ocean or city views. The ocean view rooms are set back from the beach, as this resort is set on the other side of the road, but the views are fantastic as the building is so high. The accommodations are well-appointed and designed, but the grounds here are limited and rather concret-y set afew floors up.
The Marriott Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa is slightly smaller, with around 1,100 guest rooms and suites. The Marriott accommodations are very similar to the Hyatt Regency’s rooms. There is little to choose between the rooms at these hotels. What is more important is to pick an ocean view room to maximize your sunshine and ocean views.
3. Pool & Amenities
Hyatt Regency Waikiki’s pool is smaller in scale compared to Marriott’s and is not a great place to hang out. We prefer the newly refurbished Marriott pool area.
Following a multi-million dollar resort-wide renovation, the Marriott Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa offers a new Queensbreak pool and amenity deck. This oasis floats among the palm trees and overlooks the shores of the Pacific Ocean (and the road).
The open-air pool deck is really nice and offers two luxurious pools, a kid’s play area with water features, entertainment areas, poolside bar, and a new outdoor restaurant concept. Expansive accommodations, from sun-drenched lounge chairs to cafe-style tables rimmed by greenery, along with over 30 cabanas, provide diverse options to fit any mood.
The new restaurant boasts expansive views of Waikiki Beach and breathtaking sunsets. It offers fresh, locally inspired flavors and cocktails in a lively, energetic setting.
4. Conclusion
The Hyatt Regency Waikiki is set on the edge of the ocean within the concrete jungle of Waikiki. It does have a decent club lounge and a good location. We prefer the Marriott because of its recently refubished pool deck but there is little to choose between these resorts overall as they are so close to each other.
